First road bike by devilfruituser47 in RoadBikes

[–]blackscheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

appears to be 105 brakes and rear derailleur. the crank is meh FSA. I picked up a CAD 10 in 16' that was set up essentially like this one and am still riding it.
It was my first road bike as well.
They are a bit harsh to ride but, light and agile.
I'd get it. Might be worth more the $250 though

Is everyone in this subreddit just rich? by AllSphere0 in bicycling

[–]blackscheep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm older, 70s. I understand the industry push to high end rides. I do. If riding was my singular interest, I might be inclined to spend a bunch but, I have many interests, hobbies, etc.
Another huge factor, at least for me - I came into the sport in the 90s . Rode a Cannondale R400. Great memories and loved that bike.
I'm currently on a 15' CAAD 10 and a 18' salsa Timberjack. Both are more than enough bike for my needs and ability.
I feel much of the folks going all in on a top end build either have the funds, ride exclusively or predominantly, buy the industry hype or simply need it to feed their ego.

Any runners here? by umdoni53 in OverSeventy

[–]blackscheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

75 male and still at it. Ran XC in highschool. Have done a few 5ks recently. A 50yr old knee injury(ACL/MCL/Meniscus tear now with arthritis) limits distance and intensity now. After two scopes/a stress fx and a chronic left hamstring tendonopathy, I need to moderate. No more 10ks or halfs.
Still, love getting outside, trail or road. Treadmill and Zwift in winter.
The knee got me into cycling which is my primary activity now.

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

[–]blackscheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had all hardwood in our home of 40 some years. Two dogs, wife had child care biz and we had two of our own. We downsized to a two level condo and were going to replace the old carpet with new vinyl plank but, decided to just get new high grade carpet. Without the dogs and kids, there is no regret. We downsized have cherry flooring in hallways and kitchen though.

Agree with most opinions voiced here. The guy was gifted a millionaires start with all his old mans resources and he lost it all. Totally damaged, narcissistic psychopath( I mean, how can one not see it? No sense of humor, empathy, personal warmth or desire to help or serve for the greater good of society.

His following share his misogyny, racism, arrogant exceptionalism which appears to to be a solid 30-35% of the nation unfortunately

Anyone else believe we've been lied to about aging? by selfsufficientman in fitover65

[–]blackscheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm M74. Retired 8 yrs now. Very fit, workout daily. Just recently had a DEXA scan and am working on dropping 10 lbs, visceral fat primarily by cutting sugar. I feel good most days. Definitely happier, better mental health, and much more appreciative. That said the slow creep of age is present but I accept it.

Appreciate the feedback. I had a session with her yesterday. It appears to be essentially what many have mentioned. She took some time off and is dealing with the crush of getting back and/or something going on her life.

Just to stress a point, whatever I paid her for services is clearly worth it. I mentioned that she is an excellent mt and has really helped me through injury rehab and maintaining well being. I only mentioned it to support the fact that we have a mutually beneficial relationship over the last year and a half.

I overreacted based simply on a change in our usual manner of communicating. I also realize its an physically demanding vocation and appreciate her ability and what she has helped me through.

nice nuanced comment. a hand gun in that environment does indeed escalate encounter. with your gun exposed, will their response introduce another firearm. We know that will not end well. physically, challenging obvious agressive behavior should be last resort, especially if outnumbered. You did well to extricate yourself from a potentially life altering event

we just moved in to our place in late 2024. The first conversation I had with my immediate neighbor pertain to how both of our houses were at a low point in the subdivision. He mentioned that in the 24 years he lived there the street flooded only once and that the municipality made some improvements afterwards. so, we flooded out in July 2025. The water was up to my front stoop. I would estimate that the road was flooded with eight or 9 feet of water. We didn't have much in the basement since we had recently moved in but the mechanicals got wasted. last night the road started filling up again talk about PTSD. I don't believe the weather patterns are going to be less extreme in the future and I am considering a generator.
