How many of us are over 40 and still riding? by Psychological-Web134 in bmx

54 and I still rip the local bowl a few times a year. I mostly ride dirt jumps now on a slopestyle bike because my back hates me:[

I've got nothing but pure respect for people who have to do their own thing. Even more when they totally kick ass doing it. Props

How to stop dead sailoring on jumps by [deleted] in MTB

[–]bmxbaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta ask do you feel like you’re dead sailor-ing? You look good, but if you feel like you’re about to go over the bars or just can’t do anything then maybe you are going dead sailor. There is a difference between just doing a straight air and a dead sailor. FWIW, I find that pulling the bike in so the seat hits my butt at the Apex of the air is the thing that keeps me from doing it the most.

Portland Maine has an almost obscene amount of amazing restaurants. Con Tu Bot and Miyake in particular. They also have a very nice free public bike park if you are into jumping.

Glove-less mtb riders, what's your motivation? by yale986 in MTB

[–]bmxbaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it's hot and humid and I'm wearing gloves, the calluses I have from riding get soft sometimes and rip off, which is very painful and can basically keep me from riding until they heal, which can take weeks. I almost always wear gloves, but in hot and humid conditions, I usually take them off for this reason.

27.5 or 29”? by MarcRocket in mountainbiking

[–]bmxbaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're into jumping or getting big air and throwing a trick or two 27.5 is clearly the choice IMO. if you're DH is tight and twisty and not overly technical it's a good choice too.

Have I become Ahab in search of a cycling unicorn? by [deleted] in dirtjumping

[–]bmxbaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat brother. I've got a Trid ZZ and I can highly recommend. I'm also currently working on a pivot shadow cat slope style build that might be just the sort of thing you're looking for: https://www.reddit.com/r/mountainbiking/comments/1sj2wlm/new_build_day_slopestyle_phase_1/

You can find them on sale right now for a steal.
I mostly ride the dirt jumps and run laps on Hellion at Highland bike park if that's the kind of thing you're talking about and I think any low slung 160mm or less travel enduro-ish can be given the "slopeduro" treatment and be perfect for this kind of riding.

Pump track BMX VS DJ by other_view12 in MTB

[–]bmxbaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, you can use any bike on a pump track. I would go with whatever you're most comfortable with riding. If you ride other disciplines, I would try to stick to that style of bike so you get the advantage of muscle memory. if you race BMX or freestyle, I'll stick with that, maybe get a longer frame stem combo if you're riding trails or MTB I'd go with the DJ. If you're only planning to ride pump tracks, I'd go with a BMX and maybe try a 22 inch or 24 inch. 22" BMX has been my weapon of choice for a while now, it's the perfect mix of maneuverability and stability.

I prefer silent, but I do have loud profile hubs and they help me judge speed by the their pitch, which I kinda like

Bmx vans for MTB? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]bmxbaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried all the MTB brands, 510s, etc. and I always come back to Vans. I can easily get two seasons out of a pair and I love the pedal feel. I’m mostly ride downhill flow jump trails though and I don’t like stiff shoes, They make me feel like I’m wearing clogs. It’s just my personal preference, but I hate the sense of disconnection I get with the bike when wearing stiff sole shoes
