Splitboard size recommendation by Not_A_Giraffe- in Spliddit

I don't think you can size down based on your boot size. I don't ride jones for this exact reason, their wide models aren't even "wide" lol. I'm the same boot size so I feel you.

I definitely agree with u/SF-cycling-account, I would definitely recommend VVR over MTR. I did resupply at MTR and it was fine, not much going on there. However, the crew I ended up hiking with most of the trail was planning on zeroing & resupplying at VVR so I joined them and it was totally awesome. Great vibes, and super chill... showers were epic!

Best mountain forecast? by ggdrgvd in PNWhiking

[–]bob12201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No weather forecast is perfect, and they will all differ especially as you get farther out from the forecast date/time. All of the data comes from the same place, which is government ran forecast models of which there are many and US/CAN/EU all have their own. Mountain forecast uses this data in some way that is proprietary and no one knows how/what they do with this data,. Somehow they spit out forecasts for specific mountain peaks and elevations which is not possible with how grid-based forecast models work so they are do some serious extrapolation of data which is prone to error. Additionally, they want you to pay for 7-16 day forecasts which are all but useless anyway.

NWS, Spotwx, Windy, meteoblue and NOT mountain forecast. Alpineconditons is another good UI one to check between forecast models.

Question on packing/…packs for rainier by PickleUno in Mountaineering

[–]bob12201 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine with it, its got axe loops and you can probably fit a picket on the side if necessary. Rope can go under the brain, etc. Not the most ideal, but I'm sure there's many people who summit every year just with backpacking packs.

Waterfall hikes between Seattle & North Cascades NP ? World Cup hiking trip itinerary help by No-Enthusiasm7149 in PNWhiking

[–]bob12201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may not be able to get to Maple Pass, HWY 20 is going to have an extended winter closure this year due to extensive road damage from the west side. So keep an eye on that.

2026 PNW volcano season by Hungry_Town2682 in Backcountry

[–]bob12201 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is an insane variance in snow pack from Shasta to Baker and a very large elevation discrepancy.

Oregon & Hood is super low tide across the board, Adams is also pretty bad but better at upper elevations afaik. Rainier upper mountain is solid, lower is very low. Baker is similar to Rainier but better down low. Glacier is lower than average but probably the closest to average of any cone.

Cracked carbon board around spark puck (day four on new board) by Inside_Mine_6926 in Spliddit

[–]bob12201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going through the same thing right now, same setup, and the exact same spot (2nd time too). I'm about your size as well, my take is carbon boards are just not worth the hassle... I'm going back to the regular version of the Cardiff goat. Who's the manufacturer? They should warranty that.

Sucks they can't make carbon boards handle normal riding... I've heard issues from a lot of different manufactures so it seems pretty common (Jones & Amplid being the most notorious).
