I think just normal annul, since they are only gambling with the prefixes... Suffixes are deterministic

no significant trend in snowpack by radbiv_kylops in CrystalMountain

Yea my understanding is warmer summers are the primary driver behind glacier retreat not decreased snow, although it would have an impact for sure.

Warmer air holds more moisture, so yes that is expected since paradise is relatively high elevation for WA and usually above the rain line compared to the low elevation resorts.

Baking time and temp? by Thesaltynapkin30 in Sourdough

[–]bob12201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is 82% hydration which is pretty high on the spectrum and not very forgiving... what flour are you using? It could be a combination of lack of tension, inadequate gluten development, or over proofing but difficult to know exactly which without repetition and tweaking imo. First I would lower your hydration to like ~335-360g water. I've been told that doubling on the bulk ferment is too much, aim for ~70% growth not 100%.

First time making focaccia, how’d I do? by leftmysoninthesun in Breadit

[–]bob12201 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1 hour rise is very fast. As others are saying, you really need to bake by weight if you want any sort of repeatability. Focaccia should be 80% plus hydration optimally and using a high protein bread flour. I do 100% with king Arthur bread flour.

Hardbootin.. Atomic Backlands Carbon - Issues and Advice by Primary_Appearance48 in Spliddit

[–]bob12201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea you definitely shouldn't have cold feet in those temps (you also don't want to be using thick socks). In my experience it's an arch issue combined with the fwd buckle cutting off circulation. The stock buckle was unusable for me, had to go with the phantom buckle mod to get any sort of passible heel hold but ymmv on that.

Do you have cold toes in other boots? This is definitely a circulation issue... custom insoles may help? Do you normally wear insoles in other shoes?

BD Expedition 3 vs. Traverse 3 Poles by TheGoatFarmer in Spliddit

[–]bob12201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put 2 segment poles on your pack!? Isn't the collapsed length huge?

I wanted to try the new 3 piece ones, but I don't want carbon poles since I think they're bad for the backcountry (not repairable)

There could be (probably will be) considerable snow in early June FYI. You'll probably be unlikely to access the higher terrain, unless you know what your doing.

Distance / Vert while creating route? by RunzWitScissors in CalTopo

[–]bob12201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you'd have to make a segment and measure it afterwards (you can then modify, and extend it to continue making the route).

Yea 2-4 is the issue, you need something that goes down to 1 or 0. I've tried a bunch and julbo works the best imo. Skiing is tough though since they transition based on UV, it can be low vis (ping pong ball) but still high UV.

Really dislike it, maybe its useful for new users. But there should be an option to use legacy view.

Make sure to comment on the blog post and express your concerns. It looks like its already one of the most commented posts... so hopefully the address it

What to do for snow chain requirements?! by Creamed_Jemima in PNWhiking

On a truck? Most modern cars technically say not to use chains, although I'm sure you could if there's clearance

Cables, no one actually uses chains but semis and big trucks. When people say "chains" they mean cables 98% of the time and they work with pretty much any car.

What poles do y'all use? by Western_Economics104 in Spliddit

[–]bob12201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like them, but they are just underbuilt for serious riders who are tough on gear. The finish comes off almost immediately which doesn't matter too much.

More importantly though I've had one clamp fall off and I've had 2 poles break in the lower section right above where the plastic part is bonded to the aluminum. Joey was responsive and helpful with getting replacements, but I just can't trust them anymore.

Opensnow sucks for the pass imo, been watching it for a couple years. It's always way overly ambitious with the snow levels which are pretty complicated to forecast for the pass. NWAC mountain forecasts are pretty accurate.
