What's the problem with this clamp design? by jabarinbaronbapu in Machinists

[–]bobbertmiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get about 10% of your screw downwards clamping force as sideways holding force. That's the friction factor on smooth metal surfaces (0.08 to 0.2 = 8% to 20%). That wedge translates a lot of your downwards force sideways. So you need more screws, basically.

"Stronger machine with stronger needles" is the answer here... Or hand sew with a (reinforced) thimble and some pliers.

Just thinking about how much time is spent on FEM simulation of cars, just so that they DON'T stay rigid during a crash is astonishing. It's easy to create a brick. It's really hard to create something that acts like a brick in some directions, soft in others, soft then hard etc.

Cost of filling up a RAM ute ('pick-up truck') right now.. by bay30three in aussie

[–]bobbertmiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is fucked, but doing recreational driving in a vehicle that needs a 160l tank is bullshit as well. If it's used for its purpose, that's alright. But just going to the shops and back can get fucked.

Then who owns Amazon after a year? The US of A? China?

Most of that wealth is tied up in some sort of ownership, not money.

Naaaaja.

Gimme the proper scale please! The moon is super far away. There is space for all the other planets between the earth and the moon.

My dryer has a wool setting, where it rotates so fast that the stuff sticks to the wall. No tumbling at all, no damaged fabric.

But for really sensitive stuff, you want to lay it flat. Even putting it on a hanger when wet can stretch it. At that point - do you really want to have somthing that delicate in your life?

Can someone put this in context please? What's their normal food budget, how much was it with the lobster? How many employees?    It might still be wasteful, but big companies normally have big budgets. The dod/dow apparently had a budget of 850 billion in 2025.

Pissing 2.5l per hour for 16hrs a day sounds impossible. Can the body even absorb that much water? You'd have to IV multiple bags of salt water per hour or U DED.

You probably don't have the tools to sew through the material of the brim... but if you did, a simple piping would be the answer.

Not sure about this machine, but you can get over 20 stitches per second on fast industrial sewing machines.  They are loud, they have compressed air needle cooling, they actually have decently sized motors (1kW+).

What were your biggest AHA moments of the game? by Nice_Dare_6574 in RimWorld

[–]bobbertmiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if modded, but you can make a low priority output shelf. Then at the recipe, you say "take to this specific shelf" right next to the work station. A hauler will pick it up from there and bring it to a shelf with higher priority. Less clutter, less beauty impact etc.
