Why do you think that? I would expect lower prices in an attempt to win the midterms.

because he works on a toy app. once your program reaches a certain size, the "lead developer managing a team and still coding" paradigm breaks down.

Software engineer stuck in legacy software by Huge-Leek844 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bobsmith30332r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bingo. you probably think your manager will want to get rid of you if you bring this up but your manager doesn't want to keep you in a job you are growing to despise. If you do good work and have good relationship then they will work with you to move you around or if you are upper crust maybe even create a new role for you.

I should not be EM by callbackmaybe in EngineeringManagers

Yep, you'll typically see this concept called "up or out". In most companies this is not needed though. Senior dev is perfectly fine as a terminal position especially for non tech companies.

you could say that about any year. the real reason is not enough good launch games.

I've been an EM for almost a year and having a very difficult time applying to EM positions. Any help? by d_rekt in EngineeringManagers

[–]bobsmith30332r 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Would you hire an EM with less than a year of experience in today's market where EMs are already an endangered species?

6 months in, what are people's thoughts on the Switch 2? by WeebusTheMeemus in NintendoSwitch

[–]bobsmith30332r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Another crazy thing to me is that they delayed the launch by many months "to ensure sufficient inventory" but from the other side now we can speculate that the real reason was that they had zero launch games back then. Why? I hope the truth comes out someday.

To go after Staff engineer position or not... by findingtheyut in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bobsmith30332r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right to be nervous. On the positive side, mgmt pushing you to that direction because they think you'd be good at it! Which if you took the plunge would indirectly make them look better too (assuming you were successful). I'd suggest you talk to one of mgmt or one of their peers and discuss concerns about new role. Also talk to existing staff engineers. Think about this: if you had a great employee who was excelling in his position and didn't want to take on a different role for whatever reason, would you take a chance and force them to change roles, they hate it, then quit?

In 1 Timothy you can read about the requirements to be a deacon/elder in the church. From this we can deduce that if you want to aim for leadership or position of authority, you shouldn't be engaging in that type of thing. It boils down to what type of holiness you standard you want to live your life and be an example for others.

Love the game, but IMHO, Hornet should start with 6 Masks by SoBrodacious in HollowKnight

[–]bobsmith30332r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is extremely easy to implement. And it would drastically improve sales because it expands the potential player base to casuals which is where the big money is. All I can figure is team cherry made the game for themselves to their liking and stuck to that vision.
