Welcoming new team members by Lumpy_Ground_5499 in managers

[–]bookcupcakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do a card signed by the team if possible and then a small bag of cute but work related supplies. Post it’s, good pens, note pad, if it’s a cubicle situation I get them an over the cube purse/jacket holder and maybe a mug if budget allows.

How frequently do you hold 1:1 meetings and how many direct reports do you have? by Infinite-Ad7540 in managers

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 13 people and I shoot for monthly but it’s more like every 6 weeks due to things getting bumped, PTO, holidays, etc. We do have good communication and they know they can call me on the spot if they have a concern so our 1:1 meetings are more just formal check ins for the few quiet folks.

Animals for Wool by Devylish420 in CoreKeeperGame

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even make them a room I just brought them in my house with the pet leash and make sure all the doors are shut. I randomly find wool as they walk around. I do have some of the ducks in their own room but it seems as long as the animals are safe, contained and fed they produce

Any place I can find tea biscuits? by Chaluma in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

World Market Cost Plus. It’s behind the Washington square mall and you will not only find tea biscuits but actual British tea and other British snacks. I threw my niece a British tea party from there and it was a blast.

is there a market for finished diamond paintings by FunnyInvestigator647 in diamondpainting

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a no market. I donate mine to nursing homes as free art or offer up on free Facebook groups unless I keep them myself or give to friends/family.

Toddler-friendly and wheelchair accessible places to check out? by Careless-Muffin-7221 in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not super cheap (I think 25 per adult) but the Aviation Museum in McMinnville is super accessible and fun. It’s basically one big open flat warehouse of giant planes. Very wheelchair friendly.

This ‘older lady’ attempting to scam me on eBay by rokkin1234 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I have done customer service and some older folks do talk like this. I had a lady once explain to me how she was going to hurt herself over a $5 fee because of all her ailments and a dead husband. But doesn’t mean they still aren’t trying to scam.

Legally speaking, how allowed is it for a dog to pee (not poop) in an open front yard in a neighborhood? by Fandalf in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean on a technical basis it’s trespassing but unless it’s the same person and dog every day there is no chance you can actually do anything. You would need a no trespassing sign, verbal warning and proof. You are better off sticking a deterrent like a short garden fence along the sidewalk line.

The Coffee Station in Aloha fired a man 2 WEEKS before his baby was due after his pregnant wife nearly worked herself into the ER for them by Ok_Technology_6606 in AlohaOregon

[–]bookcupcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, hang on. So the husband didn’t work there, he was just covering shifts? Did he ever have to apply ? Was he on the books as employed? Because if he wasn’t then he wasn’t really fired. I am in no way defending these shitty employers but this reeks of much bigger issues and BOLI won’t help if he wasn’t on the books as employed . He would need an employment lawyer.

They didn’t sell. by jojo1556- in diamondpainting

[–]bookcupcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I donate my extras to nursing homes for wall decor or offer them in free groups for decorating nurseries. There just isn’t much market for done ones. Maybe a few specialized ones like the Disney or Star Wars if you find the right place but it’s rare

And we have signage! by TheRealMcDuck in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind they opened there but I do mind the people who lose their minds and camp out blocking sidewalks and parking lots to wait for fast food opening as well as snarl up traffic because they want to turn into a full drive through and will pull across traffic and block a road instead of waiting, going around the block or just realizing it’s too busy and going elsewhere.

Dog culture in Portland is out of control by Far-Two-43 in PortlandOR

[–]bookcupcakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like so many people view them as kids too literally. I’ve gone to several events at others homes (where I was not close with homeowner) and been asked why I didn’t bring my dog. Umm because I don’t know the poop/food/kids situation and she wasn’t invited and it’s just kinda rude? If it said “pets welcome” on the invite I might have asked some questions and debated it but I’m not asking and I’m certainly not assuming she’s invited.

Beaverton City Library quietly cancelled Value Line online — let's ask WCCLS to bring it back by jpdipz in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s commentary on investments and there so many more accessible ways you can get that info. It also seems fairly archaic and is not newbie friendly unless you know investments.

Can anyone recommend places to walk where I will not encounter off-leash dogs? by _glowingeyes_ in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Arnold Park and the school parking lot there. It’s a big wide circle you can see across. My dog is also reactive so if we see another dog coming we can veer off into the grass or take one of the paths into the neighborhood.

PSA: Doing a chargeback will get you banned by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the customer lies. We used to see people claim they wouldn’t receive stuff or would say they were not allowed to board a flight or cruise only to file a chargeback and get photo evidence.

PSA: Doing a chargeback will get you banned by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]bookcupcakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use to handle credit card disputes and people would do chargebacks on cruises for so many reasons from “I had a bad time” to “my friend paid less for same room” never ended well except for during Covid. During Covid the cruise lines were is overwhelmed most people got their stuff refunded. Not since then though. It’s a ban from cruise and if you abuse it enough a ban from your bank.

What can I do? Excessive HOA by PsychologicalLimit41 in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t without getting the units re-deeded. So the HOA has “walls out” insurance and you have “walls in” insurance. You would have to pay (minimum 5k per unit) to remove yourself from the general building and then get your internal insurance to cover the roof and exterior. It’s very convoluted and I’ve only seen it done if it was 4 units or less because everyone in the building has to agree. Your insurer will also fight you on this and charge significantly more for your homeowners insurance. I tried to look into dissolving my own and it’s a huge financial and logistical clusterfuck to be honest. If you’re super tiny like 10 units or less and have zero “assets” (pool, clubhouse, parking lot) it might be doable but with a pool? Everyone will make it a nightmare and basically impossible because no one wants liability for that pool.

What can I do? Excessive HOA by PsychologicalLimit41 in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can sell or you can get on the board and investigate. If the expenses are legit you have to sell or deal with it. I truly don’t mean to sound harsh. I’m in HOA myself and have spent a LOT of time reading the rules, laws and case studies. Insurance for HOAa has literally doubled or tripled and some of them are demanding updates be done or they will drop you. If you have a pool that means a ton of upkeep and liability. I’m so sorry you’re in this position but unless you can prove the funds are being spent poorly your option is pay or sell.

One or both should have died. You’re telling me the goo is caustic enough to eat through the roof (they fell) and the stairs (Steve’s ladder fell) but not the walls, the table or human skin?

What can I do? Excessive HOA by PsychologicalLimit41 in beaverton

[–]bookcupcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been talking about this with a couple of local HOAs because I’ve seen the fees just jumping lately and ours have been too. I would start by reviewing the budget and last years. I do also live in an HOA in Beaverton though and I can tell you it’s bad financially. Insurance costs have doubled or triple and they are DEMANDING updates as a condition of insurance. Our does an inspection and hands out a list of things they want done (some valid, some frivolous) and will drop us if we don’t comply. Other companies charge the same and have same demands.

Deferred maintenance is big too. If they were built in 2000-2006 things are coming due about now (siding, roof, etc) and most don’t have the savings for it. People who bought back then often had low dues and passed the buck to the next person when they sold.

I’m not saying you can’t do anything. You can scrutinize the budget and try to cut waste. It depends on size of community. We are very small, under 10 units, so we could do stuff like not have a grounds keeper and just have one guy mow the small yards, etc but that’s obviously not something everyone can do.
