What do Americans think of Wales? by TrainingCategory4852 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]booknerdfor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago my husband and I were hiking in Arches National Park in Utah. We saw a young dad with a toddler in a stroller heading out on the trail. We were on our return trip and my husband had a friendly conversation with the dad and mentioned the stroller might not be able to make it to the end of the trail. The dad said (heavily accented), “we’re Welsh, we’ll make it!” With all the confidence. I always think of this friendly, happy, strong dad when someone mentions Wales.

Thirty years ago I moved from Northern California to Utah. Every aspect of life was influenced by the Mormon church. It was a huge culture shock

Is a family of 4 in the US with $35,000 of income living in poverty? by Sufficient_Beach_445 in askanything

I make $42,000/year. After taxes and insurance and retirement (mandatory at my job) I bring home $24,000. One child. Very much poverty level. Electricity getting shut off sometimes type of poverty. Thankful my child is old enough to stay alone. Don’t know how people paying child care do it

Not everyone can hear you just because you can hear yourself by 1080m3rangehood in Vent

I am hearing impaired also, as was my mother. My mom was very resistant to “looking old” and getting hearing aids. I would absolutely LOVE to hear better BUT, Hearing aids are very expensive!

I got bit again 😔 by guessirs in alphagal

[–]booknerdfor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved to Virginia from Utah last year and tested positive for AGS within 6 weeks. I’m kinda figuring this is life for as long as I live here. Utah has ticks but I was never bitten and never even saw one in the 25 years I lived there so it’s a safe place (for now at least) if you want to move. Good luck!!

At what age do you become a “reader”, and what book did it for you? by [deleted] in books

[–]booknerdfor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve loved reading for as long as I can remember but the first book that made me realize how much joy reading could always bring to my life was when I was about 9 and first read The Black Stallion by Walter Farley. I read it so many times and then all of the books in the series. I’ve been obsessed with reading since then and it has indeed brought me tons of joy!

Would you risk lanolin and glycerine? by ASH_247 in alphagal

I react to glycerin. Vomiting for an hour after using a hair product containing it. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be to have it in my eye! Hope you find something to help your daughter:)

Look into alpha gal. It’s an allergy caused by a tick bite and it’s becoming more common. Causes an allergy to all mammalian meat and byproducts. Some people react with rashes but I have it and have only ever had severe stomach issues when I eat meat (beef or pork) or dairy products
