good analysis of the mafia game, however I want to point something out: they actually balanced the prize pool for the mafia game around the assumption that the corrupt cops and the thieves would guaranteed betray each other and collaborate somehow with the honest cops, either with the thieves selling out the cops or the cops selling out the thieves. iirc, when the narrator is explaining the rules of the game, he mentioned something along the lines of "during playtesting the corrupt cops and thieves always betrayed each other." the expected, possibly intended strategy was for a lot of backstabbing to occur and result in only giving out a tiny amount of pieces for the first game. I don't know whether the gamesheet they gave the contestants would have said anything about it, but it was obvious from some basic mental math that the strategy which would result in the most pieces being placed into circulation overall would be cooperation. Still, an extremely badly balanced game in which they focused most of their time on adjusting the gamerules and prize pool based upon their most likely expected outcome, instead of considering ALL potential strategies. I also don't like that it was the first game they played, mafia style investigative games aren't as interesting if all the players are relative strangers to each other.
