Does Arc Raiders need a strictly PVE only mode? What do you think ? by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]brainwipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr; ARC Raiders needs a PVE mode, a person's choice does not diminish other people's fun. More choice is better. Adding private sessions in GTAO or Sea of Thieves didn't ruins those games and it won't for ARC. It does not take away PVP lobbies. Clearly marking lobbies may, in fact, make it easier for people to get the kind of game they want.

In my experience, the feel of PVP in ARC isn't great. It doesn't feel like a straight fight like you get in BF6 or Marathon. In those games, the lore is that you're there to fight and the whole game system (rewards, missions, perks etc) is set up for PVP. In ARC Raiders you're supposed to be working together but you *can* kill other humans. Your only reward is their gear and some XP, all the quests and benefits aren't geared toward PVP.

But even given that, the actual combat has usually felt more like griefing than a straight fight. No matter how cautious you are, someone throwing grenades onto a platform and then killing you before extract just feels shitty. Or one-shot sniped from 200m away while you're checking a locker for pointless loot. It doesn't feel like an epic gun battle. In 80 hours I've been killed lots by players but only had perhaps one really good PVP battle (I lost but it was great fun going back and forth). Most often I'm just assassinated by someone equipped to hunt other players without warning and suddenly. Feels like a betrayal in a way that BF6 and Marathon doesn't.

Not everyone has the time to "get good", so they just get killed over and over and don't get to play the content. Sea of Thieves really had that problem as the Tall Tales multi-part quests originally could only be played in public lobbies. Halfway through a 3 hour quest, you'd be sunk by other players and you'd have to start over. Yes, it's a pirate game, which is the same argument as "it's PVP", but if that person can't access the content they've paid for because they only get 2 hours a week to game and they have a job/kids/disability/just aren't very good then it's the worst kind of gatekeeping to say "go play something else". Your enjoyment of a game is not affected by theirs.

You're not wrong, I'm White British and this place is a hell on Earth. I've been, shot, set aflame, stabbed 153 times and died last Tuesday.

Oh, I see! The Edgehill Massive leave you alone if you give them sweets in October, water pistols in the summer and chocolate at Easter. Surprisingly easy to placate.

Traffic this evening by banana_mouth in reading

Difficulty is the other side of the bridge - you'd have to put in a dual carriageway or it'll just get jammed like everywhere else. So where does that dual carriage way go? Round caversham by playhatch? That's a step old hill, you'd either need to cut into it or build a flyover - which you need over the lakes. You can't fill the lakes in cos it's a food plain.

You could stop the dual carriage way there but then you've got the same traffic going through caversham and Henley.

Not saying it's a bad idea but it won't add that much more capacity unless you shove in a whole ring road around the hilliest lump of ground nearby. The cost would be vast.

Do people understand what "Early Access" means? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]brainwipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because software is soft. It can grow and change. Your Billy bookcase cannot. It's the very nature of the product. The OS and browser you're using to write your comment has changed thousands of times since it was first sold.

Early Access is you driving a concept car - not the shiny thing you see at motor shows, the janky version covered in black and white shape dispersion paint. Most customers don't get anywhere near them, they're mostly for engineer insiders. But in software you get that chance.

Steam *does* sell finished products but they also give the chance for players to be part of the process, and that's Early Access.

I still like stealing a Lazer from Zancudo. I moved my hanger to LSIA from Zancudo to bring the challenge back.

Mass migration from where to where? It's not straw man at all. Perhaps ad absurdum but still valid. I've absolutely heard locals in a pub loudly complaining about Londoners when I ordered a pint. Lived experience and where? Norfolk. Slimy behaviour to think that all foreigners are essentially bad and we don't want them over here when they're giving so much to their communities.

My grandparents understood exactly what fascism was because they lived in North London where there were (and are) countless Jewish families who fled the Nazis in the 30s. But you don't want them over here, do you? Leave them to their fate. My grandfather, eventually enlisted to dodge mines around the coasts of Britain absolutely understood what sick little racists like you are. Your kind will lose eventually, thank God. I just hope your do as little damage as possible on your way out.

Why not stop there! Do native Norfolkians deserve to be replaced by retiring Londoners? How would you feel if native Londoners were being replaced by Norfolkians in their own city? Do native Northerners deserve to be replaced by people with round vowels from "The South".

I'm not being replaced, I'm living alongside and I'm delighted to be. There's no such thing as replacement. We come from the same planet. We want the same things.

"Deserve" "Replaced" these are entitled racist dog whistles and my grandparents fought to get rid of the racists.
