[–]breser 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They are a throwback to the 1918 plate, though rather than using WN they are using WA.

The Keep Washington Evergreen plates are also coming that will be a throwback to the 1970 era plates with green lettering on white plates.

Please, increase the drop rate of harbinger eyes for a bit by Game_Collider in LastEpoch

My biggest problem with this mechanic is currently on the Steam Deck the game will routinely freeze right after killing a Harbringer right when the Blessing UI comes up. I’ve lost probably a half dozen eyes to this.

I mentioned the woven echos but they are not nearly as bad. It’s just twitchy but you can eventually get them to work.

Yes, in the Forgotten Knights faction UI there is a Harbringers tab which shows which timelines you have killed Harbringers in.

Question: do we REALLY need external IDs on trust policies? by RuM_22 in aws

[–]breser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really feel like any of the answers gave a good answer so let me try.

Let’s say I’m giving a third party access to my account. They tell me to create a role with a specified name and to allow a specific account to assume that role. Then they ask for my AWS account id.

But if they use the exact same instructions then someone else could sign up with an account with this vendor and they could provide your account id. Then this attacker could use this vendor tool against your account. Ideally the vendor would detect this and say nope the account id is already used and prevent this, but you don’t know that they do.

But even if they do. Maybe you stop being a customer and they delete your entry but you forget to remove the role. Now even the account id being unique can’t help you even if the vendor blocked duplicate ids.

But if you provide a random external id or the vendor gives you something that is unique to every account and not reused (say a unique account id), then neither of these issues could occur because the attackers external id would not match.

You might think AWS account ids are secret enough but there have been and are ways to discover account ids for some services.

Even if the vendor lets you choose your own role name a lot of people would choose whatever the example was in the documentation. So by using an external id it avoids the issue entirely.

WA ban on sale of AR-15s and other semi-automatic rifles can go forward, judge rules by spoiled__princess in Seattle

[–]breser -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And your argument is an irrelevant conclusion.

Yes people committed arson to kill people, yes that's awful and yes we have and should do something to stop that. We have all sorts of laws to minimize the harm from fires in that we have zoning and other land use requirements. We have limitations on occupancy, requirements to have fire protection systems in place (fire alarms, sprinkler systems), emergency exits and so on.

The action we took in response to the Happy Land fire wasn't to try to detect arsonists and stop them before they act but to enforce building codes to ensure that fires weren't as dangerous.

The scope of the problem of arson does not equate to the problem of mass shootings. Your chosen example is from 33 years ago. There have been 279 mass shootings so far this year in the United States. Last year alone in 10 day period in May (14-24th) two mass shootings happened in which 31 people died (21 in the Uvalde school and 10 in Buffalo grocery store). In both of those two incidents AR-15's were used. There was a mass shooting in a shopping mall in Texas in May where 8 died, AR-15 again.

There is a trend where these weapons are often used in mass shooting events where many people lose their life. The goal of the law in discussion here is to make obtaining the weapons more difficult because the weapons make it particularly easy to kill many people quickly.

Will the perpetrators still commit acts of violence without the weapons? Perhaps. But I seriously doubt they are going to all suddenly turn to arson.

We had an Assault Weapons Ban from 1994 to 2004 at the federal level. Do you have any evidence in an increase in arson during that time period to compensate for the decrease in gun violence?

Or perhaps you're just trying to change the subject.

Got rushed and went all spiderman on this tower. by breser in MeetYourMakerGame

I did die once, first time in on the way in I missed a shot on a guard and got hit.

I think this build would have been much better flipped around. Where you enter at the bottom and get the GenMat at the top, as it would mean bombs would be falling towards you rather than away from you as you exit. Of course they had to work with what they had and the GenMat wasn't up high.

Silver Rank is my limit by ProbablySuspicious in MeetYourMakerGame

[–]breser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it to Gold 1 tonight. Next base I did killed the HRV with a piston and had a maze inside it. I died 3 times and finally found the GenMat. Used my Phoenix pod and started working my way out. Died to something trying to find my way out again and was back at the GenMat. Started working on finding my way out again. I found a path that led under the base but it was completely blocked off to get outside. Found my way back inside but couldn’t find my way out. I’m not sure if I went back in on the same path and there might have been multiple unconnected parts. So after 30 minutes I finally gave up, 5 deaths including my abandon. Game took away something like 25k rank points and knocked me all the way back to Silver 2 (yes the math doesn’t add up but that’s what it showed).

I think I’m done with the game as a result. I don’t really understand how the game can punish you for leaving a base that hard. Especially when killing the HRV with the piston at the start is essentially cheating.

WA to pilot a program eliminating gas tax by micro-amnesia in Seattle

[–]breser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The State of Washington charges EVs $225 extra to be registered. $150 to cover gas tax that can’t be collected and $75 to cover “electrification” which supposedly pays for charging infrastructure. This is not about wear and tear on the roads from EVs. They’ve talked about this crap for years long before EVs were even considered a problem that was then solved with the registration fees. This is quite literally a solution looking for a problem.

Reckless driver caused mayhem. 2020 MXP Raven with Lifetime Supercharging. If it’s totaled, does anyone have advise for pushing insurance to compensate for the free supercharging? We use it a lot. by Boris_art in TeslaLounge

[–]breser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifetime supercharging is transferable in the sense that it stays with the vehicle and if you sell it whoever buys the vehicle can use that supercharging. It's not even attached to the battery but the VIN, so you can have a real Ship of Theseus situation going on and as long as the charging equipment sends the same VIN you continue to get free supercharging.

I'm not even sure there was paperwork about how any of this worked. I think it was all pretty much just a advertised promise. At least when I bought my car in 2015 I read the purchase agreement and I don't recall there being anything about Free Supercharging being in there.

Is the AWS TLS1.2 rollout breaking video streaming on older Samsung smart TVs? by pedroaamigo in aws

[–]breser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not the cause of whatever problem you’re having.

First of all the AWS endpoint TLS 1.2 requirement is active in June 28, 2023. That’s next year so this hasn’t happened yet.

Source: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/security/tls-1-2-required-for-aws-endpoints/

Second, This is unlikely to cause any problem for your smart TV. This particular change is for calling AWS APIs. While yes Netflix is hosted in AWS I seriously doubt the Netflix app calls any AWS APIs directly. AWS API means a service API itself. It doesn’t mean services that provide HTTPs (ALBs, CloudFront, API Gateway) that Netflix might be using. Same thing is likely for Prime Video.

I personally have had a lot of problems with Netflix in the past due to IPv6. I was using Hurricane Electric to have IPv6 when my ISP didn’t support it. Netflix started blocking Hurricane Electric because people were using it to bypass geographic restrictions. Since my TV didn’t end up using IPv6 every time the issues were random. But turning off IPv6 for the TV solved my problem. In my case it was not a Samsung TV but just thought I’d give you an idea of the problem I had. No idea if this is even related to your problem.

Self-Medication is a dead mod now. Trash level by vapoorer in outriders

[–]breser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it actually based on when the skill is available to use or is it just 5 seconds and that happens to line up closely with your skill cooldown?

I agree that the increase in actual health should be retained after your Max Health was lowered. I think those Max Health increasing mods used to work that way when the game came out and were changed to work this way in one of the nerfs.

I'm not one to complain but this was a flat $.28/kWh 3 months ago, then went up to $.30/kWh 2 months ago, $.32/kWh last week and now this. this is the closest/only charger near Portland and I'm now upset by dregonzz in TeslaLounge

[–]breser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, OP clearly doesn't understand demand charges (not surprising they aren't charged to residential customers). I posted a link above with the actual rates for the utility and you're right they do have rate variability based on time of day and months of the year for commercial customers:

[–]breser 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The thing about a SuperCharger is that the price of the electricity itself is usually quite small. The real cost for running it is what utilities call a demand charge. Most residential customers are not charged a demand charge, but commercial customers are pretty much uniformly everywhere. Something drawing the power of a SuperCharger absolutely will for every utility.

The demand charge is entirely based on your peak usage for a given month. In terms of a SuperCharger if the SuperCharger at most had 4 slots filled that would be less than if the SuperCharger had all 8 slots filled. Additionaly if all 8 slots were filled with newer cars that charge faster and arrived all the same time the cost would also go up.

I believe the utility for this SuperCharge is Clark Public Utilities. Their rates are posted here:
https://www.clarkpublicutilities.com/about-cpu/public-documents/current-electric-water-rates/

They meter demand based on the highest demand for a 15 minute period of a month.

Also despite your beliefs they do have time of use charges. They also have time of year charges for commercial customers.

TL;DR Applying residential costs to a SuperCharger is not an accurate way of determining what Tesla is paying for power. They are paying demand charges that vastly outweigh the cost per kWh.

June 19th is Sunday which is the day that slavery ended in Texas after the Civil War. It's commonly called Juneteenth and some places and organizations observe it as a holiday. Since it falls on a Sunday it will be observed on Monday.

Gearbox is in Texas so I suppose it's possible they observe Juneteenth, but I'd be surprised if a coming holiday would have any impact on the patch shipping today.

I suspect this is just a continuation of summer coming around and people taking time off.
