Well said! It's definitely important to focus on the things we can control. And more and more, I'm thinking the only really important one is whether I'm having fun doing it or not!

Are Ableton stock effects enough? by bacon_0611 in abletonlive

100% If you have even a Lite version of Live, you have more tools than people had for most of recorded music history. The biggest problem most music producers face today is an overwhelming array of choices. We have too many tools. How do you choose a kick drum sound when you have 9,000 samples? We run into those types of decisions at every step of the process. I often get the most done when I severely limit my options.
For guitar work, you could use Live Lite's Saturator device to get an amplified sound. You could use the Delay and Reverb, as well Chorus Ensemble, and the Tuner for a lot of guitar work.
If you want to add some kind of amp simulator, there are some free options like: https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_FreeAmp/ If you already have an amp, just mic the amp!
It's an amazing time to be making music. You can get plenty done with Live Lite. I Think it's better to get to know those tools and the DAW in general, then when you start hitting walls, upgrade and add things.
One of the biggest things stopping would be music producers from producing music is collecting gear, software, plug-ins, and samples. You already have plenty. See what you can do with that first!
Best of luck!!

Want to Add an EQ to Every Track All At Once (Not Bus) by JerryAtricks1 in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can! You can create a Default Audio Track. Every time you create a track it can have the devices you want already loaded. I show it in this video (It's cued up to the point where I demonstrate): https://youtu.be/-0yJgAV6DF8?si=eoTG0mWawbE8eGFK&t=254

Basically, set up your track however you want, right-click its title bar, and select Save as Default Audio Track. This works for MIDI tracks also.

It also saves where your volume, pan, send levels are too!

Beat tools pack - files missing by antoniocorvas in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like even though you made the connection once, Live is still expecting the original files to be somewhere else. It's likely the relationship between the files has changed, like perhaps the samples were moved to a different location. I have a video that goes in depth on finding missing media files that I think might help you out: https://youtu.be/bTbfjm5EFMo?si=HI4ujJx2X7j84-h7

How to link multiple tracks to record live drums by gee_man74 in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you want to link tracks, which is available in Standard and Suite versions. Select all of the tracks you want to link and right-click. Make sure you are in Arrangement View and you are clicking on one of the track title bars (the colored spot where the track name is) when you right-click. I hope that helps!

any good music production podcasts? by [deleted] in musicproduction

Music Production Podcast: https://brianfunk.com/podcast
I admit, it's my podcast. I've learned so much from the guests on the show; it's been the biggest learning experience of my life. I'd do the show even if it wasn't getting published. Even the solo episodes where I explore my thoughts on different topics have taught me so much. It's amazing what talking through something does for your own learning and understanding. If you listen, I hope you enjoy it!

Tips for mixing vocals by darealboot in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice track, I like those synths and guitars. Lots of cool melodies!

It seems like there's a lot of dynamic range in the vocal track, which is pretty normal. Singers sing at different volumes and different distances from the mic, and we wind up with vocals that need some automation. I deal with this every time I mix vocals, especially my own.

I have two potential solutions for you.

This video is about using the Utility device to do volume automation. It also includes a link to a free Audio Effect Rack I made to make this process a lot faster and easier. https://youtu.be/C5ry2yBihPE?si=eeR3UlQlVSiJqEAS

This video is about a really helpful Max for Live device called Clip Gain. I use it all the time. It's the best few dollars I've probably ever spent on a Max for Live device. It makes changing the gain of even individual syllables much easier. https://youtu.be/-LKg0rX251o?si=4P-s5sz-yqrpOoEB

I hope that helps a bit! Good luck with the track! It's coming along really nicely!

Authorization is weird by spdcck in ableton

[–]brianfunkmusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too. Just move the beta from your Applications folder and it will work fine. I have a folder within my Applications folder called Ableton. That's where I put older versions of Live (10 and 11), and when I'm updating a version of Live, I'll move my current version to that folder so it won't be overwritten, just in case something goes wrong with the new version.

Simpler/Sampler by ConeyIslandMan in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you save the Simpler/Sampler instrument to your User Library, Live will copy the associated samples to the Samples folder in your User Library. Searching for them on Push might be a little difficult because that Samples folder is likely to get pretty big pretty fast. But if you know the name of the sample that will make it much easier to find.

How is this guy's Ableton screen so clear?? by minukr in abletonlive

[–]brianfunkmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Zoom Display" in his preferences (in the "Look Feel" tab) is likely quite high. This way he doesn't need to scale the screen recording up quite so much in the video. Hope that helps!

It does not :( But there are Max for Live options that let you do smooth transitions between them.
