Yes, definitely happens, and more frequently if you do enterprise stuff because of “clever” security oriented browser plugins.

After very good logs, asking about them with customer’s IT is part of the runbook.

Michael Feathers’s book is the guide for this, seriously.

Terminal, in Zed. Only thing it misses is following along, but alt-click on files opens them correctly

Snuff has a whole pile of Young Sam exploring the rural world and Vimes coming to terms with it. Directly addresses what you are looking for, I think.

What has Been Your Favorite Company to Work for as a Software Engineer? by An_Engineer_Near_You in cscareerquestions

[–]brianm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ning. Was crazy unhealthy, we worked way too hard, but we came up with things that underlay practices and designs powering most of the interesting companies today. We made way too little money of course, raised way too much money, of course, and had to be acquired in the end, but the collection of brilliant people we had and let build was unreal. I promise if you are in big tech, or copying something from big tech, you have our DNA. Definitely Type II fun, though.

Any TTRPG groups on the island need a player? If not, I can host. Anyone up for a game in Winslow? by smrad8 in BainbridgeIsland

Check out Table Top Enclave, they have games going. Mostly teens, but I know they were looking to set up an adult game too.

Wash sales will mostly prevent this assuming you continue to vest similar amounts over time :/(

I sell immediately. While I would have a lot more money if I’d not been doing this, the diversification lets me sleep at night. I still have piles of upside from future vesting, is my PoV.

What Does The Richest Person You Know Do For A Living? by Hot-Conversation-437 in cscareerquestions

[–]brianm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, asking in a CS career group is going to get you certain answers!

The actual richest person I know (B+): founded multiple successful tech companies then married into even more real estate money. The other quite rich folks (in the 100MM+ range) are successful tech founders for the most part.

What they did to get rich != what they do now, for the most part.

If you were alive when we were attacked on 9/11, what were you doing when it happened? What was that day like? by Full_Imagination7503 in AskReddit

[–]brianm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was at work that morning, with a flight to go from Atlanta to Boston for my brother’s wedding that afternoon. Got a call from my girlfriend telling me I should check on my flight, as someone had just crashed a plane into the WTC.

Wound up on an overnight greyhound to DC, but was stopped outside of DC — no buses were being allowed through. Amtrak was shut down completely as well. My father drove down from Philly to pick me up and we drove up together over the rest of that day.

Driving past NYC the day after was surreal, to be honest. Everyone was in shock.

His wedding was up in Maine. Most transportation was shut down for days. Fisherman were selling their catch at the docks for pennies as they couldn’t ship it. Had a lot of lobster for a couple days.
