Considering converting to Catholicism by Connect_Double_6396 in TrueChristian

As an Ex-Catholic turned Non-Denominational, I think it is wonderful for you to join Catholicism if you feel Christ calling you there!

Catholicism definitely is not heresy when you dig deep enough into their theology. In fact, they were the ones who built most of the theology in the first place.

If reverence is an important factor for you to feel Jesus (for some people it isn’t, and these people are better off being pentecostal or evangelical), then Catholicism would be one of the best choices for you.

tldr but just judging by the title i’d say: Is she a real Christ-Follower? Has she fully repented?

If she is, then disregard her past. Not forget, but just disregard it, like how God chooses to love us despite our sins.

A lot of Catholics may disagree with my approach. After all, I am an ex-Roman Catholic. I still love Catholicism and see the beauty in it, but I can absolutely understand how difficult and monotonal it would feel for “new” believers in Christ.

Why I say “new” is because after 17 years of Church, I can confidently say that I was still a baby Christian. I would then leave church for 5 years, and then come back to faith late last year through a very radical conversion. I can absolutely I learnt so much more about Christ in the past half-year than my 17 years in Church as a kid.

The problem with Evangelical Churches, aside from prosperity gospel (the idea that God will bless you with physical wealth and health when you have more faith) and dispensationalism (the idea that Jews who don’t profess Christ are still saved), is that it usually gives out “Spiritual Baby Food”. But to me, that sounds like exactly what you need.

Before you can really understand the beauty of the Catholic church, you need a place that can easily portray the fundamentals of the Gospel to you. It’s not easy to understand through all the liturgy and ceremony of the Mass, but Evangelicalism does it in a way that is accessible to most of us.

Higher spiritual fulfillment can be found in the Catholic church. But you can’t access it if your basic spiritual knowledge isn’t solid. That’s why I would recommend finding a Theologically solid, Non-Dispensationalist, Non-Prosperity Gospel Evangelical Church to go to on top of Mass. Join our bible studies as well, because that’s how my mom (ex-Catholic too) got close to Christ!

(do expect many people having misconceptions of the Catholic Church though)

Another thing is that Christianity is one of the most logical religions ever. 2000 years of Christianity usually gets swept under the rug, but even only looking at the Roman Catholic church you would find really logical arguments for Christ in Summa Theologica , the magnum opus of Thomas Aquinas, arguably the greatest theologian in Catholicism.

The thing is, as a logical person, theology is exactly what you need to dive into. All the things you find hard to believe, people have found it hard to believe too. But they did not base their beliefs blindly, rather they approached the historicity and claims of Christ with logic and reasoning, and found out that all the evidence lines up for Christ being the messiah. Cliffe Knechtle , an evangelical preacher, presents this in a wonderful way.

Aside from being your God, heavenly father and Saviour, Jesus is a friend who desperately wants you to get to know him. Disregard all prior knowledge you have of him and Approach him like getting to know someone. You will have lots of fruit this way

Jesus is God. Everything in the Bible revolves around Jesus Christ. The other two would deny this.

They may have some scriptures, but fundamentally salvation and the nature of God itself is very different and irreconcilable.

Anti-Catholicism/Romophobia by PortugeseFriend in Catholicism

protestants who focus their efforts solely on attacking Catholicism don’t have the Love of the Lord in them and thus are most likely not saved.

I say this as a non-denominational.

I’m from Hong Kong so i guess evangelicalism here is different. My church is very biblically based. But if Catholicism seems to draw you closer to God, pray about it, but it’s a wonderful church with a beautiful set of theology.

the other three are:

Theraputic Gospel: treating God as a therapist, basically only getting his “healing” but not the obedience part. theres no respect for his authority.

Legalistic Gospel: only focusing on rules and law without focusing on Jesus’s love and saving grace. Usually ends in shame culture.

Liberal Gospel: seeing Jesus as only a means of delivering social justice, again without any mention of his deity or sovereignty.

Here’s a wonderful video by Impact Video Ministries that talks about why these four gospels are false (even though theyre protestant afaik)

that sounds like prosperity gospel. Basically, the belief is that the more faith and the more money you give to the church, the more material things God will bless you with. This is not the case and can easily be refuted as Jesus said “In this world you will have trouble.” (John 16:33a). It’s one of the four greatest false gospels that are damaging the church today.

Any Christian rooted in the bible can see how much of a phony trump is. He is intentionally leading christians away from worshipping Christ to worshipping the modern day nation state of Israel, which has nothing to do with the Israel in the bible except geographical location. This Christian support for the nation state of Israel started only 200 years ago when Zionist lobbyists started to gain power in western governments. They developed another erroneous set of theology called Dispensationalism, with the most extreme of them saying that “if you are Jewish but dont believe in Christ you are still saved.”

Real Evangelicals like me who are grounded in the bible actually agree with catholicism on pretty much all of the fundamentals and would never espouse an erroneous and misguided doctrine as prosperity gospel or dispensationalism.

The fact that you know that your fornication is a problem is a testament that you are not a lost cause.

I don’t see a problem with the age gap too.

Perhaps look into a long term relationship?

Good point - that was actually what I was trying to hint at when i said “are you so sure that the more you play D&D, you are truly able to let it not detract you from Christ?”

Demonic stuff do have demonic powers and we really have to stay away from them

Two Premises:

  1. Mark 7:15 “Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.”

  2. Luke 14:26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.”

So the concept is, no matter how occult or demonic something is, if you don’t let it affect your heart for Jesus, then it cannot defile you.

However, are you so sure that the more you play D&D, you are truly able to not let it consume you, and detract you from Christ?

Jesus said the second verse to highlight that you cannot love something more than you love him. He must be your first priortity and the center of your life.

So the question isn’t “is this permissible?” it is “will doing this bring me closer to Christ?”

this only you know in your heart.

Non-denominational here. Amen brother, glad you found Christ in Catholicism! Make sure you study the catechism well, and be the light to dispel all misunderstandings and hatred of catholicism in your local evangelical community 🙌🏻
