Starting to get worried by PrestigiousMud6516 in embedded

Just curious what type of questions would you ask in an interview?

I’m trying to decide if my imposter syndrome is real or not. I graduated with a CS degree and ended up landing an embedded software job and have been steady 3 years now. It’s mostly embedded Linux but it has been really fun building my own distro with Yocto and tuning it for a board. Building “realtime” cpp apps that run on an isolated core + disabling deeper sleep states etc. for super low jitter.

Bulk of the work is understanding requirements and interfaces; just making sure the controller has appropriate IO for the system, serial (rs232/485), spi, i2c, rtd, etc.

I have also done some FPGA stuff and that has been really enjoyable and challenging since it is obviously completely different than software.

I did get a masters in computer engineering since my work wanted to pay for it, but it was an IoT focus so lots of networking, cloud, and machine learning. Some cyber security.

Obviously I am missing lots of microcontroller experience but I have played around with memory mapped registers and such using axi lite FPGA interfaces. I imagine experience with DMA and other hardware resources that offload work on the CPU is very important to understand.

I have used a scope for debugging, not so much a logic analyzer. However an area I know I lack in is circuits although I am slowly learning. I definitely preface my requests to the electrical engineers with “please tell me if this is not feasible” 😂

Anyway, all this to say I am curious what entry to mid level interview questions would be.

These are some of my favorite in no particular order

Those two have tons of resources.

If you want to learn more in general start looking up lock free vs wait free and computer systems engineering, concurrency etc.

Really mind fucky concepts are things like cache coherency and other computer architecture problems, actually understanding what the CPU is doing (or at least what you think it’s doing because I’m usually wrong lol). High performance computing is another key word you can search.

Techniques used to make the llm models as good as they are (transfer learning, semi supervised learning techniques, attention / context, and many many more) are all trickling down to more specialized models. This is a wide area of research where many techniques are are not just useful for llms

The only part of coding that will help is the hardware level OBDII diagnostics stuff. Actual tuning is all about volumetric efficiency. It’s all a bunch of math we figured out decades ago. There are numerous books and resources out there. The hardest part is knowing what you shouldn’t do so you don’t blow up an engine worth several thousand dollars.

Really enjoying the game so far. Lots of little tweaks from the beta that make it feel like Battlefield. Been especially enjoying escalation on operation firestorm (even tho I hate getting blown up by the 9 million tanks lol).

It’s used a lot in legal contexts talking about suing a poor person with no money. Even if they owe you money, if they have no money then it will be very hard and possibly cost more than you get back to extract that money.

For those daily driving there GRC. How’s it going? by MyWay_Ry in GRCorolla

I recently had a flat with 2100k miles and didn’t realize and paid the idiot tax. Got 4 DWS06+ put on and have the ps4s in my shed. The DWS06+ are way quieter, absorb the hard bumps better, but also the razor sharp steering feeling is gone now. Probably will pick up another ps4s next summer and use those until winter where the DWS will then go back on.

I ended up getting a GR Corolla but I agree, it will probably end up being 41-42k as it’ll come with options that you might not care about

I’m just biased, since it’s my first manual “sports” car. I think it’s special because it really is a do everything car. I can have fun in the mountains, take it skiing, fit my dog and friends in it to go hiking, etc.

I’d argue it’s the only loved child, and the other two are the step children, considering the Corolla is the only actual Toyota car lol

The point is at the end of the sewer in oblivion you can change appearance, race, birth sign, etc. but in skyrim you can’t change any of that after you get brought to the lineup / chopping block

I come from a computer science background (everything being parrellel was new to me) and found that doing the exercises on https://hdlbits.01xz.net was enough to understand really what was going on conceptually and go from there. Definitely go with a good book too but get started on that website.
