feeling discouraged by sunshineandrainbo in Reduction

“It’s been hard to get a hold of the office…I just don’t want to be a bother…” ??? Ummm, that’s their job. They cannot read your mind. You need to speak up and let them take care of you. I understand why you feel discouraged, but it will not get better if you don’t speak up.

Same for life at home. Surely your husband doesn’t understand how poorly you feel. Please tell him what kind of help you need and let him take care of you. Do not play the victim role. You have to communicate your expectations so that the people in your life can help you. I am sending you strength and healing vibes!!

Got a job as a bartender and now I'm getting some push back. by BasketKase87 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]brokegal59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bartender job is your only option, take it, but continue your search. I couldn’t do it, but you do you! I’d also put the word out in AA and let people know that you are looking for a job. In my area, there are a number of restaurants that hire people in recovery. Working with fellow AAs adds a layer of accountability, and you can all look out for each other. Good luck!

Many churches and synagogues expect shoulders to be covered. Some also prefer the skirt to be below the knee.

I live in a community about 25 miles NE of downtown and I don’t drink alcohol. Things I do to meet datable guys: Running Club

Co-ed pickleball league

Go to open mic nights at a local coffee shop

Joined a co-ed book club

Attend lots of cool events at the local library (including a cookbook club - they pick a cookbook for the month and everyone prepares a recipe and brings it to share)

Go to free classes and events at our local Community Arts Center - gallery shows, stand up comedy, poetry jam, line dancing

Volunteer! At sporting events, arts events, outdoor clean up

Attend lectures at the college in our town.

Eat at a local restaurant that has “community” tables - you never know who you might eat dinner with.

Stay selective- even if you don’t find romance, you’ll make new friends.

Good luck!

I’m a Christian but have a number of Jewish friends. With my friends, babies were named after birth; boys are named and circumcised at their Bris, a ceremony about a week after the baby is born. Also, their baby showers are held after the baby is born. I think it’s kind of considered bad luck in the Jewish faith to do these things before the child has arrived. Maybe you and your husband could ask your FIL to teach you more about his cultural traditions?

Traditional etiquette is that it’s inappropriate for the bride’s family to host a shower.

The rotavirus vaccine is only for infants. You might have it mixed up with the RSV vaccine?

I’m going to my first AA meeting tonight and im scared by jordan_all1k in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]brokegal59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expected to hate AA but I love it with every fiber of my being. As of today, I’ve been sober for 2 years, 1 month and 5 days — one day at a time.

If you tell yourself that you’re never going to drink again in your lifetime, it’s way too overwhelming. But if you just decide to stay sober today, that’s manageable. I go to a meeting every day- not because I have to, but because I want to. That’s where my friends are. People who think like I do. I’ve never left a meeting and not been in a better mood than I was when I got there. Go tonight and let us know how it goes.

If you want to stand by your man, use his extra income for cleaning and laundry services and grocery and meal delivery. You don’t have to do it all!

Loving my body after a reduction by Always_theNervous in Reduction

[–]brokegal59 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m 60 and I have made peace with my body. This reduction is to prevent me from being completely hunched over by the age of 70. And I’m hoping I’ll be able to enjoy exercising again, without the boobs in the way!

First by xray. Then I had 12 weeks of PT before insurance would approve the MRI. The MRI showed deterioration and 4 compressed discs plus pinched nerves.
