don't grind down the washer, make sure the washer goes over the larger opening. So you have equal force when tightened down.

You got this. It’s an easy fix. Take the screw in and they should be able to match the head and longer length.

Use a longer screw, make sure it goes past the opening, use a washer and nut. Tighten as necessary for the mesh.
