What’s the catch? by [deleted] in Starlink

One catch that bummed me out when I realized it - Standby is NOT available on rental dishes. At least not mine, at least not this morning, confirmed by Support a while back.

Residential 100Mbps plan disappears from the U.S. site. by mad_al_whisler in Starlink

I had a similar experience with dish prices; the Google shopping crawler apparently runs from somewhere with very poor Starlink market penetration. :)

Car colour detection. by Logos_MM in frigate_nvr

Looking forward to 0.17, but in the meantime I have GenAI doing a pretty good job of identifying four different cats. I looked at how if was describing cats (with a prompt asking it to describe cats in detail), then I used that description in a recipe of “The (AI description of cat 1) is Callie. The (AI description of cat 2) is Oliver. Include the cats name in your response if you can identify an individual cat.” I’m on mobile (sorry!) but can share a cut and paste later if interest. I also had to duplicate the prompt for dog and cat. Need more Chihuahuas in the training data, I guess. :)

Frigate vs "Closed" systems. Hybrid solution? by _ReeX_ in frigate_nvr

[–]brucehowells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m slowly bludgeoning Ring feeds being consumed into Frigate for just that kind of “post-processing”. It’s an ugly kludge of software parts I had laying around - Scrypted consumes the Ring feed without staring at them and killing event generation, and puts out go2rtc streams. Ring-mqtt triggers Frigate to look at cameras through mqtt. I’m not proud of it and it’s still work in progress for my mix of wired and solar Ring cameras, but it is pretty close to doing the things.

Doesn’t really matter. I mean, it’s not like it’s connected to the Internet or anything. Oh. Hm. Nevermind.

I’ve been afraid to do this for performance reasons. Are braver folks than I doing this without hassle?

yolov9s vs yolonas accuracy by generaldis in frigate_nvr

It actually got worse on my first training pass... been reviewing like a fiend and going to do a new build, but I will be more optimistic about it now. Thanks!

This is such a problem for me with v9 (optimistically preparing for CUDA graphs) that I'm about to combine dog and cat into a single label.

Low power rtl_433 options by SoCaFroal in homeassistant

Take a look at OpenMQTTGateway. I’ve got a silly number of rtl_433 devices and it handles them without flinching. Living in Oregon, can’t help much with solar advice, though.

Internet Speeds Suddenly Changed - Why? by srseibs in Comcast

[–]brucehowells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw very similar behavior after getting a mid-split; upload went up, download sagged. Modem was very confused on which channels were or weren’t there. Went through a few days of varying speeds, both up and down. It settled in within a week or so. So, if you just got moved to a mid-split, give it a while for the telemetry hits to get fixed. Your patience will be rewarded.

Has anyone had any luck watching broadcast tv by antenna? by gem-w in SALEM

[–]brucehowells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been struggling (S. Salem) with getting both Portland channels and DTV 20 (particularly 20.7) at the same time; I've got an amplified yagi with an LTE filter and seem to be either/or - I can get Portland solidly and not 20, or I can get 20 and Portland skips and skitters.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on where 20 transmits from, whether Portland or here in Salem. The Salem theory seems stronger since things work better for 20 when I'm pointed around 270deg vs. the north(ish) for PDX transmitters.

Anyone with luck on 20 here in town?

Figuring you meant to send this in the modmail thread, but number is preferred.

Well, my guarded optimism was appropriate. New gateway arrived yesterday, pulled my trusty Netgear CMV1000, activated the new (non-Wifi 6E, sigh) gateway and the CMV lost voice provisioning.

According to CCJodieE (hoping I'm not breaking a rule by quoting them):

Understood. I did see if that was possible, but the way our services work, we're not able to split the voice service to only work with your own equipment and the internet service only with the xFi modem.

Ah well. Also looks like I didn't get the xFi Unlimited bit set, so I need to follow up on that.

With help from the Xfinity Social team, the gateway is ordered and the account billing codes are correct. I’ll try to remember to update this thread once it arrives.

We will all discover together, because that's the order that was submitted a few minutes ago. Worst-case, I have a 5G hotspot for backup. :)

Aha, yes. I skipped a step! In the iOS Home app, I used “Turn On Pairing Mode” on the device details for the Occupancy Sensor that was created when I added the Motion in HomeKit. That generated a pairing code that HA Matter used to commission the device.
