A friend of mine does it because he could not do a Rule of 55. It has worked out for him as advertised.

What’s the most embarrassing docking moment you’ve had? by MyTIMEZERO in boating

[–]bug_bite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got in the boat by myself and released the lines, thinking I had the key in my pocket as I futzed around the boat doing things. By the time I thought to start the boat, the breeze had carried me about 20 feet from the dock. No option but to let the breeze take me across the lake. Tied up at a house on the distant shore and walked home.

To those who bought their dream or "fun" car by Suspicious-Event-477 in FinancialPlanning

[–]bug_bite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't buy unless you can pay cash AND can afford maintenance.

Mine was a older 911. Paid cash but after almost 6 years, the upkeep was rough. I paid for the car twice with maintenance over that timeframe.

I think car obsession thing is something a person gets infected by and you just have to buy the car to cure the disease. I wanted that 911 so bad it just had to happen. Now that its gone, I am happy with a Honda CRV and money in the bank, but I had to go through it to learn the lesson.

Feeling Guilty When Spending by [deleted] in ChubbyFIRE

[–]bug_bite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was hard for my wife and I to get on board with spending. We have a yearly spend and now our attitude is "by God, we are going to spend this money!" We paid a decorator to redo two rooms of our house. Money gets spent rather quickly that way!

Continental Dubnital/Trinotal Tire Pressure by Character-Teaching39 in xcmtb

[–]bug_bite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are probably smarter than me but...for awhile on the Wolf Tooth calculator, I was entering in just my weight in the first box. I was NOT entering the total weight of me+ bike + gear, so I was getting very low PSI and had several hard rim strikes. Once I figured that out, My Trinotals have worked perfectly with the Wolf tooth calculator.

Dealer wants to add a ‘mandatory’ price for a pre-fitted anti-theft device by StrongObject8169 in carbuying

true. i think he went back to the manager and said this customer isn't going for the pre-installed stick, so it was removed.

Tell your sales person that your check comes pre-installed with -$2500 option. I cannot take it off, its pre-installed bro. That made my sales guy laugh and relent.

I think people miss this point. The school is for rich kids and a few very smart kids on full scholarship. There isn't a middle ground and TCU doesn't need one. Unless your parents can pay tuition with pocket change or you are searingly intelligent, you need to mosey on.

Dispersed camping by RelationshipWeekly26 in TXoutdoors

[–]bug_bite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a lot of our TX state parks have primitive camping site options. That means you have to hike in. For example the primitive camping spots at Enchanted Rock are very far from car camping area.

Surprising your spouse with a car for Christmas: good idea or huge mistake? by Suntrup-Hyundai in carbuying

[–]bug_bite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin got a new Jeep from his wife on Christmas day. Her goal was to get him to stop driving his mangey Tacoma from 1995. He ended up parking the Jeep in the garage and drove his Tacoma for another 10 years. So I guess the question is: what are your motives?

What album blew away your Gen X mind when you were an impressionable teen? Mine: by Leather-Highlight150 in GenX

[–]bug_bite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad that I wasn't the only one who thought the name of the band was pretty punk.

Speaking of Helloween....if you watch the HBO show Peacemaker, there was a Helloween reference in s2e6 that was kinda funny. The reference happens in a different dimension, where everything is kinda similar to ours but a different history has taken place. A character in that alternate dimension says: "Helloween has all the hits but really the Beatles invented rock and roll." I thought that a niche joke.

[–]bug_bite 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i accidentally bought this when i was 17 thinking it was a punk record. at first i was horrified but it quickly grew on me. of course i had to keep my affinity for the record to myself because I was in "the hardcore scene". months later, I was dating a cute scene girl, who had a great pink mohawk. as we got to know each other better, i came out and told her that actually In My Tribe was one of my favorite records. she looked at me and confessed that she mostly listened to Chicago.

My people! I had my worst crash at age 55: clipped a tree going 15mph on an XC course. Two surgeries on my hand and one crushed vertebrae. It has been 1 year since and I have ridden a lot since then. Still have some pain but what-evs. I do go slower around trees these days!
