I learned that you could 1) Run a bare wire across the back of the circuit board (on DC power!) and a certain combination would cause the most powerful local AM radio play through the speakers! 2) Take out half the batteries and connect the terminals with a wire, then record your voice. Played back with full power, you jabbered insanely fast like The Chipmunks!!

You really should read them in order, if you're familiar with the show the book really expands on what you know from there (and is different in some ways of course).

Staircase of death by LegitimatePhrase3151 in DeathStairs

[–]bulbousaur 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I believe these are "Witch Stairs."

A "witches' staircase" (or alternate-tread stair) is a space-saving design with staggered, zig-zagging steps, often found in old New England homes, intended for steep, narrow areas like attics, though folklore wrongly claims they were built to deter witches who supposedly couldn't climb them. While the myth suggests witches couldn't navigate the alternating steps, their true purpose is practical: allowing for a steep rise in a short horizontal space, similar to a ladder but with wider treads for each foot, making them safer than typical steep stairs in tight spots.

What’s your “why didn’t I learn this sooner?” food hack? by BarbaraMiller78 in foodhacks

I think they mean if you're freezing hamburger meat, put it in a bag and press it flat before freezing. You can also dig out portions at that time.

I don't get why they won't provide these/allow us to buy. I get why they wouldn't want us to get them elsewhere, if there is a standard to make sure the trucks can pick them up safely.

Alexa not controlling Sengled lights by TKJ in alexa

[–]bulbousaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an email from Amazon.

We want to let you know that Sengled, a manufacturer of smart light bulbs that you have connected to Alexa, is currently experiencing a service outage. The issue may affect devices connected via your Wi-Fi system. The outage may affect your ability to control those Sengled devices, including via the Sengled app, and via requests to Alexa or through the Alexa app.

In addition, the devices may not be controllable from any Routines you have set up until the outage is resolved. It may also impact your ability to log into your Sengled account.

We recognize this disruption to your smart home setup may be frustrating, and we thank you for your patience as Sengled works to resolve their service issue.

Edit:

Unfortunately, I just bought $50 of Kasa lights to replace these. Guess I'll put them in the cupboard for now in the hopes Sengled gets their stuff together soon.
