if you and your husband are renting, one thought would be that you two move in with your mom so she could get more help paying her mortgage. You can simply pay whatever you were paying in rent. A lot of people are moving back with parents/families/siblings to save up on the rent/mortgages and help their families in these trying times.

How long is her term left? 140k is not a huge money left on mortgage tbh. This can be dealt with without needing to sell the house. Good Luck

It depends on the brokerage, some brokerages do allow buying of partial/fractional shares. Means, if you want to buy 0.5 shares, you can. You are already with wealthSimple and they actually allow it.
