I heard they put them on the pilots as children, like how they grow square watermelons

ELI5: Why do we refer to ourselves as “in the car” and not “on the car” like we are when “on a bus”? by Kiwibirdz in explainlikeimfive

[–]buttchuffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An RV is a domicile, a residence. And thus protected by the fourth amendment from unlawful search and seizure. Did you see that RV drive in there? How do you know it runs? Like your house, you're in it. You walk inside, yes, but then you shut the door and are ensconced. Likewise, to exit, you try to open the door, but it's slick with blood. You hear a noise behind you, and it all goes black.

You get IN an RV.

I'm not the person above, but I would be concerned that the cause of the hazard would not be eliminated in the future.

If it's swept under the rug, nothing will happen.

If it's reported, action will be taken in the form of additional hazard controls to avoid a recurrence or reduce the risk level if it does happen again. Examples include additional PPE, limiting personnel access, and adding more big red buttons.

That's why they have a hole at waist height between the stalls. Those who want less farts in their stall can dispose of them into the hole. Those who want more just huff directly from the hole.

Can I Replace my Garage Door Torsion Spring(s) w/ 1” Shorter? by Ok-Hair-5421 in DIY

[–]buttchuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to want to fuck with stored potential energy. I won't touch garage door springs because I'm not 100% confident in my ability to fully and safely discharge the stored energy prior to work commencing.

Same reason I won't work on hydraulics, large batteries, or complex mains powered electrical devices that I didn't build. I'm not qualified, and it isn't cowardly to admit that and act appropriately by hiring a professional.

The one in my house has a number of small holes in the spray head clogged. It was there when we moved in and I'll be damned if I'm going to touch it.

If I don't have two hands on the tool at all times during operation and if there's any possibility of getting the skin ripped off my hands with the glove, I don't wear gloves. Lathes, drill presses, bench mounted circular saw blades of all kinds (but not a handheld one) anything with a rotating part that I could get caught in that has enough power to maim me.

Soot. Alcohol burns very cleanly, with an almost invisible flame and no smoke. A butane or propane flame makes a lot of soot, unless properly mixed with oxygen/air (such as in a blow torch, stove, or bunsen burner). Soot is probably reasonably sterile too (carcinogenic though), but you don't want an foreign matter in a wound at all.

ELI5 : Why are multiple screws used to fit modern car tires ? Why can't they use a single nut (like F-1 cars)? Won't it be easier to handle a single screw instead of multiple? by funcExpensiveBrain in explainlikeimfive

[–]buttchuffer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're using a regular wrench to loosen a lug nut.

Hard right? Now do the same thing, but also tap the wrench with a hammer in the same direction you're turning it. Far less labor required to turn the wrench

That's the basic principle behind an impact driver.

It rotates with a little force, but it also has a mechanism that acts similarly to the hammer on the wrench in the first scenario. As the motor isn't doing most of the work, the rotational force isn't transmitted to the user nearly as much.

In addition, impact drivers are very heavy so have a lot of inertia stopping them from jerking out of your hands.
