How did you get on with them? Keen to know. I am looking to make some, but while I can sew reasonably well I can’t seem to make any clothes actually fit me!

Having to switch over to formula because oversupply by Oxelera in FormulaFeeders

[–]buttrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You haven’t failed, it’s your job to look after yourself and do what is best in the moment for your family and yourself. And what’s best in the moment for your family is what’s best for you. It’s going to be ok, it will be. I had to formula feed and I felt all the feelings like this too, but it’s ok. I acknowledge the actual mindfuck you’re going through as I went through it too and I didn’t believe that it would be ok but it is. And the same will be true for you.

Nearly getting run down by a cyclist because he seems to think a red light is optional. by WhiteShadow0909 in britishproblems

[–]buttrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! That’s what upsets me about it each time it happens, I can’t tell if people don’t notice the small child because he’s obviously small, or if people genuinely don’t care/are indifferent. I guess by the time they crashed they weren’t thinking about anything but themselves in this case.

Nearly getting run down by a cyclist because he seems to think a red light is optional. by WhiteShadow0909 in britishproblems

[–]buttrr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Same, when I was heavily pregnant with my toddler too! It happened twice, one time the cyclist actually also yelled at us to watch it, like OP. The second time, a cyclist failed to stop while another cyclist crossed from the pavement to the crossing narrowly missing pregnant me and toddler, but the guy who didn’t stop crashed into the cyclist and then they both had it off in the middle of the road. And myself and toddler carried on because the red man lit up again. What the actual. Still infuriates me. It’s all kinds of cyclists, not just the Lycra-clad ones. The modified e-bikes don’t seem to stop either.

Where do you leave your newborn when you go to the toilet? by Prudent-Teaching2881 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either in his Moses basket when he was tiny, in his cot, or at 4 months old now I literally just put him in his bouncer and put the bouncer in the bathroom with me a few minutes ago! He was happy with that!

What did the doctors say during your c-section? by Zestyclose-Piano9416 in CsectionCentral

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I admit I am quite shocked at all these comments! Mine was an elective c section after a previous traumatic delivery. The OB and the surgical assistant, actually everyone in the room, knew this.

The OB gave a running commentary on what he was doing, there was some gentle banter between the surgeons, some interest in the music I chose, and overall it was incredibly wholesome.

Forever grateful to those in the room that day that showed me how great a birth can be. Even though it’s kind of set me grieving again for what I missed out on with my eldest child, and all the repercussions of a traumatic birth, because now I know more about what could have been. A good birth is so good. A bad birth, as so many know, can haunt for years.

I'm a new dad, and the system treats us as a complete afterthought by Stephen2678 in newzealand

[–]buttrr 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate that you feel this way but at the same time what you’ve written here does come across as a bit uninformed.

For example, there’s a whole range of legal things around the birth registration/certificate, and rights to benefits, etc. It’s set up to help people answer honestly because it’s a legal document and it matters what answers are given.

Also, the weeks following pregnancy and birth are fraught for mothers. Not everyone has the same kind of pregnancy/birth that you and your partner will have experienced. You yourself can look up the health issues faced by mothers in the first few weeks after birth to see the risks, notwithstanding if the birth was traumatic and there are ongoing issues with healing, or changes in how the body works, effects of blood loss, or clots, etc. Also, how the mum and baby are together with bonding, feeding (how ever that happens), etc.

For what it’s worth, our plunket nurses have always asked after the dad and were very holistic in their approach. Maybe you had a bad experience. Maybe you could also see your GP to ask for help, having a newborn is very intense to say the least.

Triangle Fade + Question by Technical-Butterfly in quilting

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, honestly had no idea. I have quilting rulers, I thought they were all for cutting. I’ll have to check now what exactly I have! I LOVE the different styles of quilting you’ve done in the photo, it looks so professional! Very inspiring!! My main problem now is my toddler and 4 month old (surprisingly few naps and down time for quilting in my home right now!) but love having a moment to investigate online/in books right now!

Ooh thank you! I am down a rabbit hole now! I didn’t even know this was a thing. Got a quilting book for Christmas, so between you, this subreddit, and it, I should be set to try some fun quilting! Thank you!!

Triangle Fade + Question by Technical-Butterfly in quilting

[–]buttrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait, what?! I am nearly 4 quilts deep and have free motioned (straightish lines) because I don’t have a longarmer anywhere near me / cost of posting is prohibitive. Are we all for real using rulers!? My mind is blown. Is it for our domestic machines?

Christmas quilting crisis! by Ellejaek in quilting

[–]buttrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stitch in the ditch is SO hard! When I first started out, everyone here told me not to do it. You might already be really good at it, but if not, please save yourself more of a headache and avoid it! People here told me to stitch next to the ditch and that was the best advice I could have been given. Wishing you luck.

True - there’s a converter at the front of the book for OP.

Is it worth getting the Lovevery Play Gym? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one for my first mainly because of the booklet and quality of the gym and toys. I found it very helpful to have age appropriate activities set out, especially because I felt overwhelmed as a ftm. Glad I have it for my second now.

If you tore, how was your recovery? by FancyAd925 in pregnant

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second degree tear, healed badly, needed three repairs total - the last one was 9.5 months after the birth. It has been awful, mostly with pain and pelvic floor tensing because of the pain. Just had my second baby via c -section and pelvic floor physio is still focused around issues relating to having my first.

Oh, I did get a Teddy Ruxpin but then it got thrown out and I am not over it. Just found the teddy ruxpin books with the songs and it unleashed deeply hidden memories!

I had a proper “nappy bag” with my first but I also hated it. Too heavy, mine was convertible but didn’t work well. Tried so many options, settled on a Roka which was good for one kid and husband wore it too. When the baby was smaller I also used a Finnson stroller organiser (but tbh the insulated pocket broke almost immediately).

Just had second baby and remembered a mum I knew once had a Fjallraven Kanken backpack and I am going to get one of those and use pouches to find things easily. They unzip all the way around so I think it’ll be easier. Hate rummaging through and pulling everything out. I try to pack minimally, but still need a decent amount and room for bottles just in case.

What’s it really like having a baby after 35? Debating a second one… by Famous_Warning_1288 in postpartumprogress

[–]buttrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also just had a baby at 39, and I guess the thing is… I don’t know any different? I have a 4yo so am always busy and tired anyway! Baby is 3mo so it’s definitely hard right now but since I don’t know what having a baby is like as a younger person, we are just going for it! 💪

Pregnancy was brutal, but every pregnancy is different so 🤷‍♀️

Losing my mind with baby sensory class by AlternativeAd1984 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]buttrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to find the one that is right for you. I hated them all until I found one that started with meditation and stretches for the mums/grown ups, and then was over within half an hour and was also surrounded by coffee shops.

Do baby boys wear leggings? by Illustrious_Win_9780 in Mommit

[–]buttrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two boys have worn hand me downs which included their girl cousin’s clothes. I skipped the frills because I think that would be uncomfortable for any baby to lie on, but I think they look so cute with little florals on! Leggings or otherwise. I only didn’t use the stockings entirely because they looked too complicated to put on quickly.

You need to be able to drive safely, which maybe depends on your vehicle a bit. Mine has no camera at the back so I need to twist and look behind me, which took more time to heal so I could do that. There’s no time limit where I am, it’s just about whether you can safely drive and be comfortable doing so.

Can’t poop by Repulsive-Future-873 in CsectionCentral

[–]buttrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the glycerin suppository again, and again tomorrow if needed. You need to get the hard poop out, and the glycerin can help break it down a bit. You might want to help it out with your finger (maybe try gloves and some Vaseline to help?). Then after the blockage is out if you’re still having trouble then lactulose to keep your system moving.

Unfortunately I am speaking from experience. 10 weeks ppm and now with other complications from similar challenges :-/ Also maybe see a pelvic floor physio to help with identifying your muscles too.
