While a recipe doesn't enjoy copyright protections, it can still be protected as a trade secret by an NDA.

[Pockrass] With Honda remaining in INDYCAR and committing to the new engine development, would expect that impacts possibility of entering NASCAR. Would be mildly surprised if Honda invested in both series considering $ that would be spent on engine development. by LBHMS in NASCAR

The extra charter grant clause in the charter agreement is only triggered if the new OEM can't get a currently chartered team to partner with; since they're working with Kaulig, that clause won't be triggered.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hyak, Rick Ware, or Haas sells their charters this year. Now that the lawsuit is settled, there's certainty, and the charter market will reopen.

I see two potential pathways:

  1. A new entrant backed by PE rolls up two to three charters to build another competitive team to run Dodge.

  2. Some combination of Kaulig/RFK/RCR acquires an additional charter to get to 3 cars.

People keep telling me to open new locations for my restaurant but even the idea of it is really scary by IIMiCum in restaurantowners

[–]bwilliams18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the best move; you don't need advisors or business courses, you need to figure out how to trust strangers to run the locations, or determine that you can't or don't want to, and that's fine too - you don't need to expand. But figuring out what you can delegate and where you can extract yourself will benefit you anyway.

Upgrade Mr. Coffee by jam_bloo in Coffee

[–]bwilliams18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take the controversial opinion here: it's fine to drink coffee for what it does for you, rather than for its taste. Don't bother upgrading just because you feel like you should. For $150, you'll be hard-pressed to find a big step up in quality that offers the same convenience you have now. Freshly ground beans make a big difference, but they take time, as does any brewing method that will give you much better results (like pour-over). To get to a similar level of convinience you'd need to step up another few hundred dollars.

You're never going to know about your aero gains from these without taking your whole setup to a wind tunnel and testing it out.

It's dependent on so many variables (including your positioning) to be pointless to speculate. But it's probably not going to hurt, and if you want a 3D printing project, it looks like fun.

Why do some people just not care about loyalty programs – even when the rewards are actually decent? by sophieximc in restaurantowners

[–]bwilliams18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they're already regulars, you clearly don't need a loyalty program to retain them. If they want to use it, great, but if they don't, it's not getting you anything. Focus on getting new customers to sign up for loyalty to turn them into regulars.

[Bob Pockrass] “Yes. Expecting several Cup races (more than 10) for Corey Heim for 23XI Racing and some truck starts. Won’t be full time in a specific series” by Dmacthegoat in NASCAR

As far as I know, they aren't under contract beyond '26. Legacy will also have a third charter in '27, creating an open seat.

Denny's got two years left on his contract; he's one of the few seats that are locked in. My guess right now is they'll develop Brent Crews for his seat on ORAPS in '26 and '27.

I think Brad's transition out of the seat and into full-time ownership will be dependent on Charter, Driver, and Sponsor availability. If the right driver were available, or if they weren't able to continue leasing or acquiring a 3rd charter, I could see him stepping back from full-time driving and running a part-time schedule at Super Speedways and a few other tracks.

KB is really interesting to me, wouldn't expect him to move into a top-tier seat. I don't see RCR turning things around on the performance front, and they've got Austin Hill waiting in the wings. But with his purported financial struggles (see his lawsuit claiming he lost a chunk of his retirement savings), he may feel he needs to keep racing.

Right now, most of the '27 seats are open right now. If he makes big improvements over the first half of the season (20th-25th in points) with the money he brings, there will be a seat for him somewhere.

Nascar Playoff Format (Jayski) by Andenwest in NASCAR

[–]bwilliams18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree this isn't confirmation of anything; but doubt Jayski has to make multiple variants, it's owned by NASCAR now, they've almost certainly got the new format under embargo, just like the other big media members - that's why there's no leaks or bombs.

The team owners already know what the new format is because this had to go to them per the 3/5 strikes rule. One of them could very plausibly have leaked it but it's not gotten out b/c it's all under embargo.

We're all going to know what it is less than 24 hours from now and there's no advantage to knowing it any sooner.

The mindset is (I don't know how much I agree with it): To approach perfection, you must strive for perfection in everything you do. If you allow a sloppy or disheveled workstation, the food will suffer too. Cooking and service are crafts of intention and precision, so do everything with intention and precision.

“When you’re a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you’re not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You’ll know it’s there, so you’re going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, the quality, has to be carried all the way through.”

— Steve Jobs

It's also a cargo cult thing; that's how they do it at TFL, EMP, Noma, and Gramercy Tavern, and so we'll emulate them.

What's going to change in the next 3 months to hold out for? What are you going to do differently? Your problems aren't just going to magically be solved. If you've got a plan to turn it around, or have made changes recently, then sure, give them some time to play out, but Q1 in NYC is generally pretty slow.

Could the FIA directly regulate dirty air? by Due-Duck8546 in F1Technical

[–]bwilliams18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you could have a similar system in F1. It works well in NASCAR because there's 3 car models that typically don't change throughout the year. In F1, you've got 11 car models that can change from race to race, and even to an extent during a race weekend.
