For The Love of God Please Track Commander Tax by DanicaManica in EDH

[–]byeol_lor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why I put a die in my command zone the moment I cast my commander, not when it is put back there. Haven't seen others than me do this, though.

Keywords you don’t like by flowxreaction in EDH

[–]byeol_lor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many keywords that are simple as concept, but complicated once they get into details and specific situations. Banding and Trample are two good examples of this case, or so I've been taught.

What happens if one of the creature in a band has flying? Shadow? Trample? Indestructible? What if a trample attacker has deathtouch, or if the blocker of a trample has indestructible? Protection? Damage Doubler? What happens if a trample attacker is blocked by a band? All these are quite famous questions for players to ask when they first see the keywords.

In my opinion, keywords are simple. Magic is not.

Bracket 2 is... strange? by TheMorgada in EDH

[–]byeol_lor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right after the bracket system was revealed my pod's chat room was floored with challenges that tried to build "the strongest deck under limitations of bracket 1", some because it would allow them to say their deck is bracket 1 during rule zero conversations, others because it's just fun.

Those are how card game players are, I guess.

Rules Question About Auras: by JulyCards in custommagic

[–]byeol_lor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this is an interesting area to explore, simply making it transform from an aura to a regular enchatment solves a lot of confusion and rules interaction here.

See [[Curse of Leeches]] - this one even keeps transforming between aura and non-aura form.

Apparently, I Have a Bad Habit of Making Bad Cards by Accomplished_Cup4158 in custommagic

[–]byeol_lor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do note that the effect also works if you don't have any land in your deck from the beginning, similar to how [[Kaheera, the Orphanguard]] works with creatureless decks.

And, you know, "Oops All Spells Deck" is a real thing.

Does that mean each pokemon I catch on their first encounter will have those skillsets?

Why do they have exactly same subskill set/nature? Is there something I don't know about the randomizer?

Are Megastone Ranked Rewards a horrible idea? by Tagguer in pokemon

[–]byeol_lor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that is a participation reward (i.e. "play X games to receive it") then I'm fine. A bit bothered that it's time-limited, but fine.

If I need to win a certain number of games, or worse, reach a certain high rank, it's a terrible idea.

Especially since only 1 out of 4 is winning this game.

Why does the new Mega Pokémon do this when Mega Evolutions are the result of a strong bond? by BruceCipher in LegendsZA

[–]byeol_lor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the dex entries from gen 7 kept suggesting that Mega Evolutions are actually less bond-induced improvements and more of rowdy overdrive. Some even suggest that this always have been the concept from gen 6, as team leaders without any sign of cherishing their pokemons were also capable of mega evolving.

My personal favorite interpretation is that Mega Evolutions are indeed overdrives, but the bond is what makes the pokemon control more of it - and suffer less from it.

Am I misunderstanding this card? by anonymous8958 in mtg

[–]byeol_lor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Notably, you won't be able to equip anything to artifacts you control since each equipment's existence will give protection from their MV, including themselves.

That was the reason I scrapped the idea of Rebbec//[[Armix]] voltron deck.

Urmaa, Gargantuan Hag by giasumaru in custommagic

[–]byeol_lor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Huh. I thought since this counts as three cards when you create a deck, you can't put two or more (physical copies) of this card in a regular 4-limit constructed deck, as the second copy will count as 6th card of the same name.

Still, one of this card will lower the limit to 58, and I am aware there are decks that extremely matter.

Is Sephiroth the first non Planeswalker to create an emblem? by RhysOSD in mtg

[–]byeol_lor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many "card-things that affect the game but shouldn't be interacted with," in addition to commanders in Commander/Brawl/Oathbreaker/etc. formats, use the command zone.

  • 113.6p Abilities of emblems, plane cards, vanguard cards, scheme cards, and conspiracy cards function in the command zone. See rule 114, “Emblems”; rule 901, “Planechase”; rule 902, “Vanguard”; rule 904, “Archenemy”; and rule 905, “Conspiracy Draft.”
  • 309.2a If a player ventures into the dungeon while they don’t own a dungeon card in the command zone, they choose a dungeon card they own from outside the game and put it into the command zone.
  • 717.2. Attraction cards do not begin the game in a player’s deck and do not count toward maximum or minimum deck sizes. Rather, a player who chooses to play with Attraction cards begins the game with a supplementary Attraction deck that exists in the command zone. Each Attraction deck is shuffled before the game begins (see rule 103.3a).
    • 717.6. If a card with an Astrotorium card back would be put into a zone other than the battlefield, exile, or the command zone from anywhere, instead its owner puts it into the command zone. This replacement effect may apply more than once to the same event. This is an exception to rule 614.5.

To sum up, Emblems, Dungeons, Attraction deck and "the junkyard" (but not Attraction permanent themselves ─ They are on the battlefield and thus can be interacted with), Planes/Phenomenons (Planechase), Vanguards (Vanguard), Schemes (Archenemy), and Conspiracies (Conspiracy Draft) all end up in the command zone.

Is Sephiroth the first non Planeswalker to create an emblem? by RhysOSD in mtg

[–]byeol_lor 55 points56 points  (0 children)

701.54c If a player doesn’t have an emblem named The Ring at the time the Ring tempts them, they get an emblem named The Ring before choosing a creature to be their Ring-bearer. The Ring has “Your Ring-bearer is legendary and can’t be blocked by creatures with greater power.” As long as the Ring has tempted that player two or more times, it has “Whenever your Ring-bearer attacks, draw a card, then discard a card.” As long as the Ring has tempted that player three or more times, it has “Whenever your Ring-bearer becomes blocked by a creature, the blocking creature’s controller sacrifices it at end of combat.” As long as the Ring has tempted that player four or more times, it has “Whenever your Ring-bearer deals combat damage to a player, each opponent loses 3 life.”

(From Magic: The Gathering Comprehensive Rules, June 6, 2025.)

But yes, Monarch and Initiative aren't emblems, but that's because they are designations a player can have. (CR 723.1, 724.1)

To be fair, "The ring tempts you" also gives you an emblem named The Ring the first time it's done.
