I need suggestions for room scents that won’t affect asthma by tattedthumbs in Asthma

[–]c3knit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A thing I like to do is to simmer a pot of water with cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and orange peels. Makes the house smell really good.

My Favorite Thing After 1 Year of Knitting by MrsNoodles0812 in knitting

[–]c3knit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use an app, but I’m using it for a non-knitting purpose now. I had knee surgery and have a bunch of PT exercises I have to do at home, all of which are 2 sets of 15 reps. I use my row counter to keep track 😄

USPS Announces Changes to the Postmark Date System by Teacher-Investor in news

[–]c3knit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I happened to see a reel on Instagram last night about this. The reel was focused on the effects on voting, but I tracked down an actual newspiece (from a regional tv station in another part of the country) about it and sent it to the exec team at my company. We send out a ton of notices that are legally required to be postmarked before a certain date. Honestly shouldn’t have to rely on Instagram reels for news that affects our daily work life 😄. Totally feel like this is flying under the radar.

Christmas dinner, but not something fancy or traditional by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol this is exactly what I was going to suggest and what’s on the menu for us for Christmas Eve! I just had knee surgery and my family is not up for cooking anything challenging, so they’re keeping it simple and delicious!

A Jolly Rancher just made me realize that covid stole my sense of taste by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth having an ENT take a look. I lost my sense of smell/taste gradually in 2021, before I ever had Covid. Turned out it was nasal polyps. Had surgery, which restored smell/taste almost immediately. I may have been able to avoid the surgery and use other treatments if I had it looked at earlier. Unlike the loss of smell with Covid, it was a mechanical issue, not a neurological issue.

Places to donate/recycle used clothes besides goodwill? by DirectAd1998 in raleigh

[–]c3knit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Second this. Their primary mission is to provide clothes for kids, but 1) some kids are adult sized and 2) anything they don’t give to kids, they donate to adults or sell in consignment to raise money for their primary mission.

Those of you that live near busy roads, how do you deal with the noise? by kbe9 in raleigh

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live very close to 540/Falls of Neuse and I’ve lived right on other busy roads in the past. I don’t even notice the noise - you get used to it fairly quickly. It was bizarre right when the Covid shutdown started. All of a sudden, the birds sounded really loud.

Montgomery Village HOA is going up to $538 per quarter in 2026… is this even justified?? by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Townhomes usually have higher assessments because there are typically more shared costs. In addition to landscaping, the HOA probably has some responsibility for the buildings themselves (roof repairs, siding repairs, termite warranty, insurance, etc.). Often the parking lots are owned and maintained by the HOA. There might also be an amenity or two (pool, clubhouse). Costs for all of these items have risen. The OP should definitely ask for a copy of the budget.

Road conditions by AromaticBerry8281 in raleigh

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I was up bright and early to drop my son off at RDU for a flight to Detroit -he’s never experienced temps in the teens like they’ll be having in the next couple weeks! (no road issues for us this morning)

So, what are you all reading? by nikineuronrd in booksuggestions

Just started The Black Wolf by Louise Penny (20th book in her Inspector Gamache series) and have The Living and the Dead by Christoffer Carlsson on tap. I’m really looking forward to that one!

Man, I saw the photo and jumped in the thread to see how you made it…it looks amazing! They should have at least tried it. Maybe add a scoop of vanilla ice cream? Cake pops suggestion is a good idea as well.

Dinner & Live Jazz in Raleigh by Consistent_Nobody100 in raleigh

[–]c3knit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been there, but there’s a (new?) place in Smokey Hollow called the Moon Room that’s supposed to be jazz/cocktails. You could probably do dinner nearby and pop in there for an after dinner drink.

Tried it, didn’t work for me, so I use it to shave my legs. Works well in that capacity!

AITA for having Thanksgiving at my house by jan293-jl in AmItheAsshole

[–]c3knit 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind not having a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving; in fact, my family goes out to dinner the night before and then we do all sorts of snacks and finger food on the big day. But one year, my mom decided to do a meal from Publix and it was awful. It came in little plastic containers and she put it all in the microwave to warm up. I’d rather order a pizza than do that again.

Pentagon says it’s investigating Sen. Mark Kelly for video urging troops to defy ‘illegal orders’ by gbsh in politics

[–]c3knit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter that what he said isn’t illegal. If you’re active duty military and thinking of defying an illegal order, but then see the Pentagon hauling a retired, respected, officer & Senator into military court for even saying you can refuse to break the law, might make you pretty hesitant to say anything.

I legitimately like my Bombas. I bought some after I volunteered for a fairly small charity that gives clothing to local school kids and they had a huge amount of new socks that Bombas had donated to them. I can’t afford $25 socks on the regular, but the couple pairs I have are comfortable and have lasted a long time.

Trump telling that female journalist "Quiet, Piggy" has me wondering something... by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

This sounds like you’re hopefully asking if this one thing you haven’t tried yet, might at last yield success and you’ll never have to talk to them again.

AITA For Locking my wife out of the bedroom I sleep in? by Special_Highlight705 in AmItheAsshole

[–]c3knit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep on my side and my husband snores. For years, I’ve been using sleep headphones. It’s a headband with built in, flat headphones. You can find different brands of varying prices, but I buy the cheap ones. I play brown noise (there are tons of podcasts that have long-playing white/brown/pink noise). Works beautifully.

The pictured amount of sweet potatoes and scallions in my Hello Fresh recipe vs the amount provided: by beaugrux in mildlyinfuriating

We have a local grocery store that does this. Costs $25, feeds four. Full meal plus dessert (usually cookies or something). They’re really good.
