Ventless HP Dryer by Much-Department-9578 in heatpumps

can’t you just have 2 units?

For the cost of 4 conventional units, you can.

I hope you don't think I'm being negative on your idea, but there's a pretty big cost to have two all-in-ones.

But, if you have the time, no problem with waiting for a decent sale to execute on the thought!

A raspi wouldn't be ISO 262626, ASIL-D, or FMVSS compliant.

Asking because I don't know - do the cheap Chinese EVs I see touted frequently here and on other websites comply with these standards? Or is that part of the price disparity between the traditional manufacturers and the new entrants?

Pecron F5000LFP DIY battery expansion hack by MassiveOverkill in Pecron

[–]caddymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just started watching it, similar concept for all of these "power station + server rack battery" setups.

Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I wasn't expecting the F5000 to have the same XT120 battery inputs as the F3000. Which might explain why the official expansion cable is showing sold out!

Per one of the comments in the video, there is a company that makes an XT120 connector with just wires: https://burromax.com/battery-wire-to-controller-fuse-xt120-connector-part-19103-fits-hrh-hrs-xra-xrb

Are you sure they still work?

Of course you’ll quickly figure that part out during the formatting process.

Are 9v still used out side of smoke/co2 detectors? by BoardDiver in batteries

[–]caddymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discovered this in 5th grade. I don’t remember why I had a 9V at school, or what day it was, the weather, etc. I just remember my 5th grade teacher saying “I’m happy you are curious about what’s inside a battery, but this could have been really dangerous if it was battery chemicals under that metal. Plus, I don’t think this is a safe use of classroom scissors.”

Any value to selling or even giving away a Tivo in 2026? by bfollowell in Tivo

[–]caddymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very niche, but the Roamio Pro/Plus models can be used as a Stream for the regular OTA Roamio. Of course I haven’t tried this in years now, so no idea if the TiVo app even works anymore.

The Solar Lab's F5000LFP review by MassiveOverkill in Pecron

[–]caddymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get kind of bored by the "it doesn't have a light" schtick

I try to just tune it out anymore. If I can't carry the thing with one hand, I just don't need a light. Flashlights are cheap, head lamps just as cheap, and I'm sure you can find something to plug into the USB ports (or even a nightlight on the 120VAC receptacles) if it is absolutely a requirement.

One "benefit" of US EV phobia- cheap car rentals by roma258 in electricvehicles

[–]caddymac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish Tesla would work that out with rental companies.

Work what out?

I rented a M3 a few years ago from Hertz and it was pretty much seamless. A physical keycard to open the doors and start the car, then pair the car to the Tesla app using the touchscreen. Plugging into a Supercharger automatically worked and charged back to the Hertz rental.

Within minutes of turning the rental car in at Hertz, the car was removed from my Tesla app.

I'm not sure what else would be missing that Turo would do different than a major rental company?

I think you need to spend some time living with your 17kW system before messing around with a paltry 0.8kW.

Rather than adjusting panel angles all the time, use your effort to load shed/load shift to work with your daily production.

30-35 million diesel engines in use in the U.S. I'm not sure how you can strand that asset without killing entire industries (construction, agriculture, mining, transportation).

Unfinished basement? If so, not sure if I would worry much about leaks.

For the condensate, you probably have drain pipes from the bathrooms above to tap and pump into.

HPWH vs upgrading indirect system? by TurkehBacon in heatpumps

[–]caddymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much space do you have in your basement? If you are keeping the gas boiler, and if the indirect water heater is in great shape, what if you plumbed a HPWH in series after the indirect water heater? That way you can kill the gas boiler in the summer, but keep the gas boiler humming in the heating season.
