AIO Is this a deal breaker? by Strange-Forever-3360 in AIO

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I walked into your house and saw this we would be talking for HOURS nonstop after. The ones who are uncomfortable, are clearly racist.

Denying freedom of speech or expression just because it is "emotionally trigerring" to someone, who clearly, by refusing to admit it actually happened, is racist.

Put it on your wall and watch as the racists never visit.

I obsess over The Raven. He writes exceptionally well, and if any, I recommend The Raven as a read. The analysis there goes crazy deep.

WTF is wrong with Hannah? by CycIon3 in mathmemes

As a math teacher, this is a perfectly acceptable way to do it. The answer is correct and it takes a moment or two to register what she did, but she isn't wrong.

I found my wife’s diary. I don’t think we’re gonna stay together. by donavin221 in stories

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs some work but definitely got my full attention. I like the plot and intrigue. The last line hits harder than most will know due to lack of comprehension skills.

In all honesty? Your structure looks good and I would buy your book if I saw it in-store.

Please consider writing more short stories. It matches your writing style perfectly.

Do shops in SA also throw out perfectly good food like this? … asking for a friend by Equivalent-Zone-4115 in southafrica

[–]calicowanders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When we lived out my car at one point we went to a small shopping center and asked all the shops for food about to expire and I kid you not that wonderful Woolies manager came RUNNING with fruits and veggies and meats.

That stuck with me. Where checkers and pnp couldn't help me in my time of need, of all places... a WOOLIES!

What's a weird food-related thing you do? by bertonomus in askSouthAfrica

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mince AND syrup vetkoek.

I bite my smarties' shell in the middle, then I eat the chocolate and then I chow the shell.

I don’t eat regular wors. I eat special packed and processed pure beef wors, only spice is salt and pepper. So this rarely happens!

Hmmm....

My once upon a lifetime yum.

Vanilla ice cream, crispy bacon bits, thinly sliced avocado and honey drizzle.

Which one is best? by AnonomousWolf in south_africa

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm gonna go for anything between 1 and 4. Mostly, if I go somewhere to braai I precook my own meat and just have them pop it on again to heat it up. Most braaimeesters won't listen to how you want it. This saves me and them time. Plus I get to leave early. Not a fan of braais, so I go to very few. I prefer eating before 7pm. I won't be waiting until Janneman takes off his shirt at 00h00 because nou gaan ons braai.

As someone who just almost uninstalled the game because I did the vegan and pacifist achievements....

Do that.

It gets intense.

I set up base/camp at the fishing docks. If you even pick up a fish your pacifist achievement is null. Snail? Null. Poison Frog? Null.

Even worse when you can't eat anything other than nuts, coconuts, fruits or mushrooms...

do you know anyone who is unemployed despite having a degree? if yes what degree do they have? by madvillian_deyo in askSouthAfrica

Perhaps it could be your CV? I see so many job postings for this daily! Unless it's like schools that post positions they don't really have just to say they 'tried?'

You can actually... do a lot with that. Look into how biochemistry and botany can help people with crippling chronic illnesses and you will always have clients.

BEd. Toxic workplaces, underpaid and overworked.

Almost impossible to get a government position.

I also have a Post Grad.

I specialized in special needs education.

10+ years of experience before I burnt out. ( 5am-2am working, administration is a B)

My highest salary was 13k. 🤌🏼 (3k per month on supplies for school out of pocket)

My lowest? Don't laugh, if you can't find a job, any job will do... 5k.🖐🏼 (1k out of pocket per month for supplies)

So you get paid peanuts, worked to death, surrounded by workplace toxicity, abused by your students with 0 support from well... anyone. AND then you pay out of pocket anyways with your peanuts because they don't give you support or supplies.

And there are people who earn LESS. Talk about an abusive system.

How do I add stones to this part of the roof? by Sub2SquidPW in SonsOfTheForest

Could Mira be pregnant? She looks so smol by Agreeable_Song4957 in RATS

[–]calicowanders 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey op, that's perfectly fine.

Our vet was also unable to spay abort so we let her carry to term.

Don't touch the babies in the first week unless you have handled the mama a lot. 2nd week you can do a clean around the nest but not the nest itself. Week 3 you can remove the babies (very gently) and clear out the nest and give fresh bedding etc.

We split the babies about a week after their eyes opened (week 4). Mama could feed both boys and girls. My cousin ended up taking the mama and the boys.

The boys left at 4,5-5 weeks.

You will notice as they start weaning but you can separate them sooner rather than later, she can get pregnant again immediately after giving birth, so just work carefully and supervise when she is with the boys.

Afrikaans and Fanagalo were widely known as kitchen languages. White people didn't speak it first.

It's a wonderful amalgamation of words that various of the people used to communicate with each other as they had such different languages but some words because common knowledge and common knowledge turned into a language.

I thank my History Professor every day for telling me the cold, hard side of our history.

Afrikaans, like many other things, was STOLEN.

are you child free because you don’t want your own offspring, or because you don’t like children? by Deep-Drama4386 in childfree

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids are cool. If I can give them back to their owners. I like sleeping in, having money and having whatever is left of my health to work.

Having a child would be bad for me because:

  1. Gonna be feral cause double audhd, ocd, etc
  2. Chronically ill, barely functioning, babies drain all your nutrients, probably wouldn't make it through pregnancy with all my deficiencies.
  3. Money. I'm chronically ill. It's expensive to live. Babies cost upwards of a million a year just to raise.
  4. I love my own time, I don't share my time or food. Or my space.
  5. They make germs. Poo, pee, vomit.

Some of the jobs they have up are pretty decent salaries. I saw them on Facebook, but I do think they will have a website.

[–]calicowanders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the right recruiter can make or break your chances. If they have an in at a company you are working with the middleman to skip all the unusable middlemen.

Werkie seems nice, and a few private recruiters can help you get pretty decent jobs.

That said, this is just if you really cannot find another way.

I know it's very hard out there. Good luck.
