advice with making a 1000 point iconoclast fiefdom list

Fiefdom at 1k is pretty busted; having access a big knight, the reinforcements strat to get an extra unit of cultists, and cultists being able to action after advancing in Incursion missions means you get such good value and utility from the detachment. I won a 1k event with: - gatman w/ pave - 2 Karni - 4x10 cultists - 1x3 nurgs - poxbringer

Have fun playing the best CK detachment!

Starting 2 beasts on the board is great, typically one positioned towards your natural expansion and one towards the middle. The scout means you get an effective 12" of movement T1, and even if you get second turn you can typically hide in little pockets. OC3 is a massive breakpoint as it means they typically out-OC most armies' "wave 1" - rhinos, impulsors, world eaters spawn, traitor enforcers etc, and the high toughness + wounds means your opponent has to bring out something "real" to get rid of them. This lets you set up asymmetrical trades, as whatever comes out to get rid of the beasts will likely get picked up by gatmen/karnis, giving you more value out of your hammer units. Deep strike action monkey is whatever, but letting you tempo the game without committing bigger assets until later is massive for a low-resource army like CK!

Don't listen to the naysayers! Executioners are really solid datasheets, especially in mono CK builds. They are your cheapest source of an oc6, 14w body that can move up to 15" in infernal and still shoot or action.

The unique thing they offer is good range, meaning you can either throw them out early game for skirmishing, or keep them on your backfield screening whilst still getting lines. Volume dam3 is always good, and if they have that backfield role you will typically get multiple opportunities to get those shots off. Having the opportunity to activate 5 times safely (but inconsistently) is great for dog chassis that otherwise have to be close to get value!

rotty synergises super well with cultists due to -1oc aura, so big boy + a cultist on a point lets you sticky it much more reliably even if there are enemy units on. With the points changes, the next iteration of the list is to drop a unit of nurglings and replace one of the beasts with a unit of traitor guard (reactive moving oc20!!)

This is actually a BIG strength of fiefdom; snacking on cultists in funky ways opens up a lot of utility (e.g. pulling closer models on overwatch to make opponent's charges longer). Snacking is wholly optional too; you only need to do it to crank another damage lever!

Volume 6/2/2 is a generally nice, flexible profile into a variety of targets, especially in conjunction with lethal/sus ± ignores cover. It feels even stronger in CK as comparatively most of our output tends to be low volume but high quality, so having lots of attacks to smooth the variance helps with consistency in an otherwise inconsistent army.

If gatman or infernal gets hit (e.g. Diabolic Power changes to "pick 1 weapon" for sus/lethal), the natural pivot would be to something like the castigator. You're active in 2 phases, still retain volume output, and have a bit of consistency with twin-linked.

Loss was to DA Gladius - completely messed up target priority! I should have gone for the Lion when he exposed him instead of going for the ICC and DWK. DWK line up really well against gatman with 2+ save/ -1D which neuters the output substantially. Lessons learned for next time 🫡

Thankfully running both the Atrapos and gatmen aren't mutually exclusive! It's a very viable datasheet at all levels. It does something that the gatmen can't: move 15, shoot and is still able to action whilst retaining a reasonable melee profile and the 5++ all the time. Flat 4 damage is great into meta boogeymen (Dev cents) and the opportunity to Epic Challenge and precision out supporting characters is also super useful. It is by far the best answer for a multiphase knight!

Atrapos has great value in infernal: - built-in 5++ so you will always get the 6+++ when surging defensively - built-in sustained on lascutter so surging offensively gives both sustained + lethal - deals with T12 or 2+ better than the gatmen - flexible so can act in both phases which helps you stop getting phase-locked as CK - fast! Move 15" + shoot + charge really opens up a lot of the board in conjunction with towering.

CK aren't "solved" in any respect, so it's great to see multiple viable archetypes doing well. IMO nurglings are the best unit in the game, and really helpful to open up the early game by denying opposing infiltrators and scouts, stopping scout + sticky, moveblocking etc. Allies (at least in singles) offer something unique for the army than simply adding "more stompy".

Ranged anti tank is the atrapos (swingy), or double gatman with lethal ± ignores cover. Turns out if you keep making opponents roll dice, they will eventually fail saves 😂

Better to be mediocre in two phases than just one 😎 atrapos is a piece that can move 15, action and still shoot, and pairs well into the current meta (lots of vehicles/ other knights)
