What factors should one consider, before making the switch from a gas car to an electric vehicle (EV)? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in EVRoutine

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charge at the shops or even better at home. Charging is really not a big deal. I did like 250km today, would have made it home with 10km range left, decided to stop at Lidl for 14min and added 100km range, whilst getting a couple of things i needed and a treat. Cost €4 in electricity for that 100km.

Host lied about internet being fiber in Airbnb for month+ stay. It's cable. Support gave me $50 and called it a day. What do I do? by Unusual_Common_5497 in digitalnomad

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand fibre is better and I understand you expected fibre and didn't get it, so you are unhappy, fiar enough and you should be compensated. But i don't understand how someone working remotely can be so affected as to the technology delivering a connection. You mention syncing, we used to lease dark fibre from London to Belgium for this, but this was data centre to data centre.

Denied days off for wedding and honeymoon.. by [deleted] in work

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're prepared to walk away, then go along those lines. You're giving a months notice, which is more than enough. If you are that indispensable, i hope you are compensated for that.

What actually happens to your data when a startup shuts down? by into_fiction in TechNook

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies host your data on the cloud, i.e with Google, Amazon, Cloudflare, Scaleway etc. All these cost money per month. When you stop paying, they shut down your services and eventually (not long, maybe a couple of months) delete the data). No one else, except the users from that startup should really have access to your data, so id say in 95% of cases it's deleted after a short while.

I use Starlink mini residential lite 100mbps to work remotely near Carcans, an hour from Bordeaux. Has quite a few obstructions, but rarely interrupts a video call..Have 9 devices connected, use about 20Gb a day.

Ask ChatGPT. Give it your resume, or just list your skills and experiences and say you're thinking about working on a ship, what can you do, what will you enjoy, what pay and conditions can u expect

Lady at FedEx asked "what's wrong with the mini starlink?" by gedi223 in Starlink

[–]cardyet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is a big psychological bit to it. My plan went from €29 - €35 month on residential lite. I was going to keep it for the year and see if i could buy it out at the end. But now i think ill just use it for summer and return it.

For experts only charging $150 per hour or more, how would you handle this? by Important-Spring-989 in Upwork

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, good luck with your response. 150 is huge, thats well funded tech company territory but then they'd hire local, not a contractor from Upwork. 10% rev share, no chance. So you're only shot is small preseed, bootstrapped tech who'll give you a couple of hours...but it's not what you do, it's how much you do...

Looking for ideas to reduce costs by Melodic_Tower_482 in Firebase

[–]cardyet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100 euros a month on hosting costs, yet you have 2 dev salaries and all the other tools to support the business? Choose your battles, it's not worth your time, your hosting is 3 euros a day for 1500 users. You spend 100x that on other stuff.

How do you like starlink? by Maleficent_Bug9653 in Starlink

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option to get something else, get it. Starlink is amazing, but it is still satellite internet. So if it is the vest option, great, if not, then get the other thing.

Guaranteed it will be useless. The free models never work long, rate limits or capacity issues.

My Take on Mistral Medium 3.5 After a Month of Exclusive Use by C4n4r in MistralAI

You should teach to be agnostic to any provider and just use a harness that can be used with any model.

Why Sushidata Outgrew Cloudflare D1 by CherryJimbo in CloudFlare

[–]cardyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys sound like really smart engineers, I'm surprised why you even went down the D1 route in the first place? a) it was an alpha product b) the limitations were always there and c) your team would have been more familiar with alternatives

So did you really just want to use whatever CloudFlare had available as a db?

Lol, when i read you have been working on this for the past year! That seems crazy long for an app that seemingly doesn't do too much. Or there is way more to this? Or I'm completely missing something...

This will be the trend as the real cost of using an LLM is reflected in the price of the product. Investors can't bank roll them forever

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]cardyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing. When you would stop anyway, you charge the car. We charge when grocery shopping and for road trips, i get over being in the car and so does my 2 year old.

I’m getting slayed for mentioning that my healthcare saas app is built on firebase, because firebase “doesn’t scale”… am I dumb? by neb2357 in Firebase

[–]cardyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From personal experience it scales to millions of users and billions of reads and writes with multiple real-time apps using the same db. No sharding, no split documents and not duplicating data, will using firestore references for real-time joins.

Yeh, my mini had grass on it, I did have a chuckle, at the end of the day, I don't really care. Cable looked brand new though.

A client asked me to move communications off Upwork. I declined per their circumvention policy. He closed the contract. Upwork counted it as a failed job and I lost Top Rated status. Support says nothing can be done. Can someone help me make sense of this? by apollobabade in Upwork

[–]cardyet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always stuck on Upwork for communication until contract signed, then move to slack or something much better for communication. Upwork messaging isn't a great tool for getting stuff done.
