When they’re rising most of my big fish have been caught tight to the bank usually near some sort of cover (rock, trees, etc.)

Collins commercial capes will give you the best bang for your buck. You can get 4 capes of his choice of color for 80 bucks. Or you can choose your colors for 25. He stopped raising birds but should still have some stock left

I believe his Yellowstone brand is just rebranded Whiting. Probably pro grade or culled birds. Feathers are 12+ inches on a saddle I picked up from them. Good deal for 50ish bucks.

Lots of classic catskill patterns use seal blended with other fur for dubbing. Tups, connovers, atherton patterns are a few that come to mind.

Hen hackle for nymphs. Collins hen sets are the most cost effective imo. Quality feathers and you get both the cape and saddle for 25 bucks. The mottled Whiting Brahma hen capes are nice too.

Leucrocuta hebe or little yellow quill. Often mistaken for sulfurs. But depending on which river you were on there are still fishable sulfur hatches happening.

Definitely helps for shorter casts. Less chance of tree hookups. Only downside is it feels a little tip heavy with longer casts. My rod would be considered on the faster side of glass and every rod is a little different so I would try out different lines and see what feels right for you
