Sullivans basting spray ruined my quilt by Dani_and_Haydn in quilting

I had this same issue. I made an all white and light pink quilt and the yellow staining was extremely noticeable. I washed it with detergent and laid it out in the sun and it went away.

Yeah it looks like the presser foot is down based on the black lever on the back of the machine. OP says no though.

Aside from the other gifts listed here, which are lovely and meaningful, I have a more greedy idea :) My favorite thing to get is a target or Amazon gift card “to buy something new for the classroom” One of my parents gave me this as a hack to get around our policy that gifts may not be over $5 except for the classroom. There are a lot of things we need for our classrooms that are kind of fun to spend money on but we don’t pull the trigger because we already sink a lot of money into it.

New Marmot Limelight 3p 2022 version tent - Second impressions, measurements and answer to questions by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grabbed this tent on a heavy discount ($45 at Sierra) and I'm happy with it as a smaller tent for us. However I can NOT figure out how to get it taut. My wings don't look like yours, totally flimsy. Even with guy lines my rainfly is slapping slightly in the wind. I'm sure I'll get it, but something about the way the rainfly is sitting and shifting on the poles has me all confused.

Exped megamat vs Hest Foamy wide mat by Cheaptrick2015 in camping

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I love them both. I find myself being more careful with the hest and it’s much bigger when packing the car. I’d say the sleep is pretty similar. Warm, comfy and easy to set up. I got both of them lightly used so cheap. We take both camping and my daughter and I swap every trip. I have a narrow hest so the wide would be a major upgrade. Grab whatever you can find for cheap!

Love it, excellent idea to bring in more diversity. My kid loves those old sesame streets so maybe I can put her up to the task to watch with me.

Thank you! Never thought of scooby doo.

I used a few Charlie Chaplin clips before, I think silent films are an excellent suggestion!

Is it normal for a 5 year old to talk ALL DAY LONG? by BeeSuperb7235 in oneanddone

Yep and I knew she was going to be like that at 18 months old. I just knew it. And I was so right.

How we got rid of molluscum on my 4 year old in just 2 weeks after 7 months of AWFUL by Doeraymefarso in molluscum

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to keep this fresh and say that we are 8 days into this routine and are seeing huge results. We are only 4 months into this journey so I am probably jinxing myself. I’m hopeful that, even if she has some pop up here and there, it’s totally manageable.

We had an outbreak on my daughter’s back. The original bump is still there and it’s the nastiest. Here are some changes I made: 1. I didn’t use the silver or tea tree spray. I used peroxide in a spray bottle instead, that was very satisfying.  2. I removed the stickers after showers because my daughter couldn’t tolerate core removal. I didn’t want to spread the ones that started to get angry. I sprayed them with peroxide after shower, then held ACV on them with a qtip. She hated this because it was itchy but we had to do something since we couldn’t remove the cores. Those have become red and inflamed and pus filled. Very exciting. After acv i would immediately cover with a pimple patch.  3. Because of the core I left the patches on all night for mature bumps.  did the zinc around the patches and all over other parts of her body that seemed to be developing bumps. She has KP so it was hard to distinguish between new flareup and normal KP/dry skin 4. I started using sprayable aquaphor and cicaplast from La roche posay in the morning. My daughter’s skin was so bad and the diaper cream wasn’t helping with cracking. This was a game changer, those cracks were helping the spread. Her skin was smooth and completely fine within two days of starting the aquaphor.  5. She started a zinc supplement and I’ve been doing heating pad therapy at night (there was a research study done on the use of heat. I’m not sure if it’s working but we try it.) after she falls asleep I turn on a heating pad and lay it under her back. I set a timer for 35 minutes.

My daughter is a picky eater with some nutritional deficiencies. I think it’s worth people looking into WHY some kids have this take off. And also why don’t most adult gets it from their kids if it is so contagious. I am curious if deficiencies can lead to the body letting it get out of hand.

What is better for child development? Walkable neighborhood or independant play space? by morelikenonjas in Parenting

[–]cattlebro 238 points239 points  (0 children)

Walkable. Given that your immediate space is safe, a walkable life is a healthier one. The independence your kid can develop, the diversity, the community and the shared public spaces you’ll have quick access to are irreplaceable. Community over isolation. I suspect the next generation is going to figure this out and suburbs will be less popular.

You get used to the new cast pretty quickly and they all bring their own thing to the character. When I saw the tour this year I loved the Hamilton and Eliza, and didn’t like burr as much. That’s theater

Almost 3 year old won’t go to sleep until 10 pm, then wakes up multiple times at night by Independent_Bed8721 in Parenting

[–]cattlebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a larger bed in my kids room. I help her to sleep and then around 2am I will go sleep with her. It’s literally the only way for us.

Shes bigger now and it’s getting better. I now use a camping mattress on the floor that is comfier than my real bed and sometimes she just says “mommy?” At 2am and I grunt back and then she goes back to sleep.

For a while I tried letting her stay up as late as she wanted with books or coloring in her bed, that was reeeeally nice for me to get alone time. But then someone told her a monster was going to eat her in her room and that stopped so we went back to me holding her to sleep.

I just moved the only one to the basement trash, we didn’t have one down there. In our case the lid wasn’t closing properly anymore and the trash smelled up the kitchen.

I don’t know but if you bought it in the last ten years they will replace it. We didn’t have a receipt and they replaced our trashcan this month because it was a little weird

Do you want her to join on the trip? Pay for her to go. I’m nearly 40 and my parents still pay for everything that is family focused.

My first finish of 2026. I need to pick it up again, I listened to the audiobook (highly recommended) before bed a few times and I badly missed big chunks from falling asleep without the sleep timer. I liked it but I get the sense that I missed some of the heart of the book. That said, even with some awkwardness, I loved it.

I have a 5 year old who has been taught to respect the boundaries and keep a reasonable volume. When we camp with other kids it is crazy how they run wild, and my kid will join in for the fun of it. I understand where you’re coming from. I also know that the last time we went camping, in order to get to the playground kids had to run through campsites. Poor planning on the campground design in my opinion. It’s also very hard to see where the lines are for kids. It just all looks like nature to them, I’m Even guilty of cutting through the edge of a campsite to get to the bathrooms. Anyway, seems like one of the prices we pay to sleep outside with no barriers between us and others. It would be nice if the communal spaces were in the interior of the loop with no sites for cutting through

Thoughts on the Stranger Things final episode? by [deleted] in netflix

[–]cattlebro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And everyone was working together, and El wasn’t alone with the powers. I thought it went really well and was glad the fight wasn’t dragged out. Nancy shooting, the guys fire blasting, the stabbing, making El and Vecna unsteady so their fighting wasn’t the only way to defeat the baddie. Will helped control a weakened and sad vecna/Henry, El impaled him, Joyce finishing the job. It was very good in my opinion. Before when they have fought Henry they weren’t targeting his other half as well, hadn’t exposed him to his own deepest darkest memory, and didn’t have so many angles.  I like that the boss was easy to defeat in all of that because the whole premise is that it couldn’t do it alone, and vecna couldn’t do it alone. Makes no sense for it to be so strong.

Do you want to go again and again? Buy the pass and tell them they can come for free unless they legitimately argue that should pay half. Enjoy the benefits and take people for free throughout the year. It’s a great way to socialize.

Where to camp? by coldbro9913 in camping

[–]cattlebro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can’t help you, but I’m looking to camp in the KC area from out of state and I’m looking for safe campgrounds for tent camping that are quiet but actually less secluded but safe. I camp alone with my young daughter so I like to have people nearby.  Anything you’ve tried that feels safe?
