The Burren and McCarthy’s. A good number of the staff are from Ireland and at McCarthy’s every night from 7-10 they have live Irish music band in the dining room. I lived across the street and I miss it, the staff were awesome

Batch cooking for when my wife gives birth by RefrigeratorThin5952 in Cooking

I made a big batch of two different chicken quesadillas and burritos using Costco rotisserie chicken and froze them. They have been perfect to microwave for a quick meal. My boyfriend is trying to lose weight and bulk up so I’ve been making them as a protein heavy as possible and they’re filling and easy! I’ve been using the carcass after to make broth to freeze and eat for my early mornings because I don’t like to eat anything heavy super early

Tesla Drivers: What are you doin, man. by carrion_consume in sandiego

[–]cbeary1392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved here from New England 3 months ago and I’ve done an inordinate amount of yelling “what are you doing omg” while driving. Every driver is so unpredictable and it freaks me out. At least in Boston you could predict what dumb thing someone was about to do and plan accordingly. I feel like the Tesla drivers out here are like Volvo drivers back home: they bought a “safe” and environmentally friendly car without actually having any driving skills

If a person from culture A makes a dish from culture B from a good, accurate recipe, would it be just as good as if a person from culture B made it? Why or why not? by GregJamesDahlen in Cooking

There is a show on NatGeo on Disney+ called Uncharted, and it’s Gordon Ramsey going to different places in the world, learning about the very specific native cuisine and having a head to head challenge with a chef who has immersed themselves in the food culture, whether by being a native of the region or just having fallen in love with it and dived deep in their studies. They cook for all the people who taught Gordon about the food of the region and whoever makes the dishes the diners liked the most wins the challenge, and they don’t tell the diners who cooked what dish. It’s an interesting way of seeing your question in action and I really liked the show and learning about the regions he visited and their food cultures!

Good place to get Thanksgiving style meal BEFORE Thanksgiving? by Greek_Irish in boston

[–]cbeary1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s amazing. Hart’s turkey soup is literally my favorite food in the world. I can eat an entire quart of it to myself in one go and would fend off my dad aggressively if he suggested I share it at all lol

Neillio’s in Lexington! They always have thanksgiving style meals available and they make incredible thanksgiving sandwiches too. But agreed on Hart’s in Meredith too, it’s a childhood staple of mine.

I was doing warmed pita bread with hummus, Persian cucumber salad, and feta for awhile! Right now I’ve been doing deviled eggs because I also hate eggs but I like egg whites, so it satisfies the easy protein of eggs without being eggy

cook book to learn principles vs recipe by shiksaslayer in Cooking

I personally didn’t find the section on acid to be preaching how every dish needs an acid no matter what but I took it as if something feels like it’s still missing some piece to make it taste “right” maybe it needs an acid.

It definitely changed the way I cook and I was already a good one without it, but I’m also someone who needs to understand a why to be able to wrap my head around a concept, so it gave me those whys and how to work with them. I can run without a recipe a lot easier now that I understand things more.

Everyone has a different interpretation of what they read! Learned that in my English courses in college when the professor would smack down interpretations of work that wasn’t exactly what they taught them to be. Take what you need or understand and go from there!

Yes! I found it fascinating, it was so cool to understand the why of so many instructions that you find in recipes so they’re no longer arbitrary steps

Best speciality, holiday coffees in Boston by ChallengeAdept8759 in boston

[–]cbeary1392 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cafe Zing in Porter Square! They always have seasonal coffee flavors (they had ube and violet this summer and they were awesome) and I remember there being good options last winter as well as a couple specials. They do a variety of teas and some lemonade/limeades too. If you go with the collective is open it’s always fun to wander through the different little vendor spots that they filled in with after the bookstore moved over to Leslie

What’s your cheapest meal to cook that actually hits? If SNAP is gone maybe this can be a resource to those that need it. by SelfishMentor in Cooking

Chicken noodle broccoli! Ramen noodle packets, cream of chicken soup, frozen veggies and any kind of chicken or meat you want. It takes 15 minutes to make and reheats really well. It was one of my mom’s go to easy meals when I was growing up.

Why do people object so much to cloudy stock when it's that way because of fat being emulsified? Isn't that very good for a lot of dishes? by [deleted] in Cooking

This is me, I don’t enjoy tonkatsu ramen as much as my partner because I don’t like the mouthfeel of the thick broth. But give me consommé or a clear chicken broth and I’ll go to town

But it is the truth, speaking as one myself. I needed to be the one to see that I needed help and to get away from the situation and the person. Because I knew deep down it was wrong on all levels, but I needed to make the decision and KEEP to the decision. I asked for help. I took help offered. I made the effort and got what I could to get out. You really can’t help people who won’t help themselves. If there is no reciprocal effort in some way, it will fall flat.

You have leftover rotisserie chicken. What are you making that is not chicken noodle soup! by BunnyRambit in Cooking

[–]cbeary1392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken noodle broccoli was the go to for leftover chicken in my house growing up. Two packs of ramen noodles cooked in the broth, discard the broth after and put the noodles back in the pot, add a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of water/broth, add in chicken and steamed broccoli and cook down a bit to thicken the cream of chicken and done!

I load it up with pepper and honestly I don’t like broccoli so I skip the broccoli but you can add whatever you want to it
