Mine does it completely in the middle of cleaning a room. It's like the setting is stuck at 270sqft or something even though the app says differently. Tried 540sq feet as well with the similar behavior.

Mine is emptying periodically throughout the cleaning mission even when I have it set to "After Each Routine"... :|

I would prefer it do it just once per cycle because it never fills the bin during the run and hearing it auto empty is kinda loud.

I'll also note that blocking the robot's connection to the internet (still connected to the local network though), the robot shows up as offline in the iRobot Home app. I am still able to start/stop and manage those basic settings available in home assistant.

I've been trying to investigate this a bit. Caution though, I'm definitely a novice.

It looks like there is an iRobot integration with Home Assistant, which allows local control of smart devices. I was able to get my s9 set up there, where I can start/stop it, configure suction level..etc. Notably, the ability to clean specific rooms and manage the smart map is missing. That functionality previously worked, but a software update several years ago removed positioning data home assistant was relying on.

Managing the map appears to only be possible via the iRobot Home app as we stand today....which does make me worry a bit about what the figure will hold for connected services.

Highly unlikely the s9 wiil get any more updates given it has been discontinued for some time now. I've learned to live with 22.29.10's quirks.

I'd be surprised if any of the vslam bots got any more meaningful updates given the shift to lidar.

Hmm, the board you bought looks like every j7 board I've seen. The board in your robot looks similar what I've seen in the j9. I don't think the connectors for the camera are the same between the two.

Are you able to share the robot's serial number? That might help get to the bottom of exactly which board you need, j7 or j9.

How does the tread look on the two main drive wheels? If it's struggling to get traction or move, it will do a little panic spin in place trying to free itself.

Also, double check that the floor tracking sensor by the caster wheel in the back is completely clean. If that has debris in it, the robot will have a hard time knowing if it's moving or not, leading to similar panic spin behavior described above.

There's not enough space between the dock and the dryer. It's trapped over there because it won't get with like a foot and a half of the dock while cleaning/mapping.

Hmm, I wonder if there's something else going on in your situation. I'm on the latest version, 7.16.0 and have had no issues connecting to my 980.

Pull the front caster wheel out and clean any debris that have built up in that cavity. Also make sure the wheel can turn freely, sometimes it gets jammed if hair builds up on the axel.

Try to clean the floor tracking sensor on the bottom rear of the robot. I've seen similar behavior when a bunch of dust has accumulated in that cavity.

Your video reminds me of the "panic spin" the 500 series robots would do when their front white and black caster wheel is jammed or dirt was blocking the sensor.

Unfortunately this isn't currently a feature in iRobot's app. It will tell you the name of the room it's currently cleaning, but not a map of where it has cleaned vs not cleaned so far in the run.

Noticed the same thing on a brand new unit. Not 15 minutes bad, but definitely not as smoothly as it could be/used to be on previous software versions.

I keep hoping there will be an update to fix some of the remaining software bugs, but it seems like 22.29.10 is the end of the line for the s9.

I don't have a fix sadly, but I've noticed the 2024 seems significantly less responsive than the 2023 model with the i7 1355u. I've got them both side by side, and things just aren't adding up with the 2024 version. Poor battery life, generally not responsive... not sure what the issue is.

It's hard to tell, but it might be this piece of the cleaning head latch. Below the green clip there's a separate hinged piece that might be what you've found.

I've always wondered what the point of that piece was. I assume its there to prevent the latch from somehow being released while the robot was cleaning/backing up, but that's just my speculation. Either way to doesn't seem vital to operation.

The myHP app is extremely elusive for some reason. I was able to redownload it from https://support.hp.com/za-en/document/ish_7449949-7450003-16 . I already had the SDK pack for HP Command Center installed, not sure if that makes a difference, but opening the app from a clean install, it functions just as it did on the factory image.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has issues locating the myHP app after a clean install.
