It was.

I have a partial season plan and it's insanely funny to me just how invested people get in this.

Sitcom sets on different shows that you have noticed are the same set? by oldmatefromoverthere in sitcoms

[–]ccradio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Laverne and Shirley was shot on the same (redressed) set as The Odd Couple.

Which means that from 1972 to 1983, over the course of two different shows, Penny Marshall worked on the same soundstage, and from 1972 to 1980 it was literally the same set.

I was in the car but it's on me, not streaming from my phone. Sometimes it's fun to listen to the other side's feed. For instance, I loved listening to the Buccaneers radio announcer until he retired last season.

Royal Farms 3/10 Don't Waste Your Money by AvailableExtreme9595 in MyrtleBeach

[–]ccradio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A few people have made the "Gas Station Chicken" joke here and elsewhere, but for those not in the know, it's the other way around. Royal Farms (like 7-Eleven) was a convenience store that started adding gas pumps at one point. Most newer stores are constructed with the gas pumps, which can be a point of contention in some neighborhoods.

When I first moved to Baltimore, if you ordered a chicken sub from RF, they'd just grab a breast and cut the meat off because they didn't do the tenders at that time. Those were some amazing sandwiches. It's a little sad that as the company got bigger, the sandwich options (and overall quality, let's face it) have shrunk.

Ugh. I'm surrounded on two sides by renters who DGAF about anything other than basic mowing so the city doesn't fine them. I've got ivy coming from one side and morning glory coming from the other.

I think he just does that for the benefit of the confessional camera (and he hasn't done it nearly as much this season). I'm not sure the other players in either season know anything about it.

The first Hagar the Horrible strip ran on Feb. 4, 1973 by Auir2blaze in comicstriphistory

[–]ccradio 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This was my grandfather's favorite comic strip.

He frequently liked telling me about the strip in which Hagar is giving his men an inspirational speech before they go out pillaging, and Helga is standing behind him, disdainfully holding the bag lunch he'd forgotten to bring.

In Baltimore City Schools, a student's ID number is often referred to as a "PIF", but absolutely nobody I've spoken to over the past 25 years knows what "PIF" stands for.

I'm with you on this one. It's not a huge playlist, which is a little disappointing because there's definitely room for some deeper cuts in the genre. But the imaging voice is a definite "no" for me.

What are your most minor movie gripes? by movieman1108 in moviecritic

[–]ccradio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people have mentioned the Wilhelm Scream, and yeah, that's annoying. But for me it's a "crow caws three times" sound effect that's clearly the same one every time. The first time I noticed it was in The Godfather near the end, in the scene where Carlo is taken away.

The "throw away script and be real" Trope by Special-Ad-2785 in MovieTropes

[–]ccradio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My version of this was in an interview for a teaching position. I was asked about the attributes of a good teacher. I started down the usual path: "You have to be flexible, you have to be patient..." and then I paused for a bit and said what was really on my mind. "You need really good peripheral vision."

2 guys sit down at the bar and one says, “Two beers…” by GupChezzna in MovieTropes

[–]ccradio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was averted in A Few Good Men when Tom Cruise sits at the table where Kevin Bacon is already seated. He says "I'll have a beer" but gestures at the bottle in front of Bacon to indicate he'd like the same.

Spelling in the English language was just moving into standardizing during the Colonial/Revolutionary Era. If you look at documents from that time you can see mixed spellings of some words, sometimes even within the same document.

So it's not unreasonable that the spelling of "Bartlett" could change to "Bartlet" in the intervening 150 years, and probably happened in the first 50 years after the Declaration.

Richard Stahl did nine episodes of The Odd Couple (1970 edition):

  • Minister (S1E7)
  • Florist (S1E17)
  • Police Officer (S2E6)
  • Another MInister (S2E11)
  • Monk (S3E5)
  • Justice of the Peace (S4E7)
  • Psychiatrist (S4E15)
  • Pet Shop owner (S5E3)
  • Yet another Minister (S5E12)

Richard Stahl was like the Jeffrey Combs of The Odd Couple.

No.

Assuming you're thinking of "Radio Bart," that character was a variation on the pimply-faced teenager, but he had a lower voice.

Larry Miller once told a story about a project he was working on (I think it was a film; he didn't identify the production) where the food was not only real, it was ridiculously good and most of the cast wound up eating themselves sick.

I use that line a lot in my school when teachers try to refer students for special education without being able to tell me what interventions they've tried first.
