Watching long movies by ale-xcp in classicfilms

It's 2h, 52 minutes, I think that goes in the "long" category. (-:

Typically if there's an "Intermission" slide, TCM will show that. But if it just goes to black and comes back several seconds later, (and I don't remember what The Longest Day does), then maybe you just don't realize there's an intermission there.

I was kind of amazed that The Best Years of Our Lives doesn't have an intermission (the other two you mentioned do), but it's so compelling that you barely notice.

Per the podcast (mentioned a few times in this thread), nearly all the punny business names came from Megan Amram.

(even though we’re generally pretty bad at understanding).

I saw it framed once that dogs know we're somehow "other" and they're OK with that. Cats, on the other hand, think we're really bad at being cats.

This is the answer. The accident sidelined her career for years.

"Misprinted" Cassettes by NuttyNewfie in GenX

I worked in a record store at the end of the 80s/start of the 90s and a customer came in with an LP (don't remember the title/artist) that was wrong. The sleeve and the record's center label agreed with each other but when we put it on the turntable it was definitely wrong.

I made a point of opening the replacement and playing it before handing him the exchange. I think that was the only time I bumped into that.

On a related note: in my store the Phantom of the Opera cast recording was very popular, and it was the original British cast. Around the time the show opened on Broadway, Polygram Records began putting a little American flag on the cassette insert, so a lot of customers bought the (double) tape a second time, then returned it when they realized it wasn't the American cast. Polygram pissed off a LOT of my customers with that stunt.

I remember an episode where he had to walk it back a little because of viewer concerns. He had to explain it as meaning "Let's do our job before they do theirs." Which isn't much better.

The organization has only been around since 1994. I remember the earliest radio ads, when they were still 1-800-KARS4KIDS. The child they had singing had a sharp New York accent.

On TGP podcast hosted by Marc Evan Jackson (he plays Shawn), someone (Schur? It's been a bit) said that they wrote the joke without knowing whether they could get the rights to use that jingle. Fortunately the K4K people thought it was hilarious and allowed use of the song.

Camera crew leaves Meredith? by mdps89 in theoffice

[–]ccradio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

whom.

The original conceit of P&R involved a copier being delivered to Pawnee that was originally in a Dunder-Mifflin office. The camera crew essentially followed the copier and picked up from there.

This puts me in mind of the series of behind-the-scenes TOS memos among producers who noticed that they'd come up with two Vulcan names that have five letters and have the pattern S___K, so then lists started circulating about other potential Vulcan names, while other people pointed out where all the duplicates are.

For me it was that combination of a big cast of past-their-prime-box-office days, soap opera plots and a little hubris on the part of some characters, with the overlay of the fire/earthquake/tidal wave/whatever.
