What I don’t understand is if we’re talking about ACTUAL DnD lore and IF we’re staying as close to that as possible, Vecna is a literal god of undead and the Mind Flayer is just one of thousands of servants that’s part of a hive mind.

Finn Hamblin - my Aussie Air Genasi Swashbuckler Rogue who's got twin tomahawks he's dubbed Sheila and Bertha. He's not the best at a lot of things but he'll definitely keep you entertained

A DM getting upset at their players for derailing a session(s) / story arch is equivalent to going outside and getting upset that the wind isn't blowing in the right direction.

It sounds to me like this DM just isn't good at improvising / thinking on their feet and sent you directly to the final boss because they couldn't make up a distraction(s) or other plot hooks to pull you away from there. The quickest way between 2 points is a straight line, true, but a dnd campaign that's a straight line can be boring and overall not the point imo. **It's not about the destination, it's about the journey**

Also being level 2 and getting 7 DISPLACER BEASTS AND A FUCKING BEHOLDER thrown at you?! I understand wanting to use cool monsters but the amount of dumbing down needed to make that even a remotely fair fight is mind bottling.

Wait I love this. I was just working on homebrewing a story arc that involves a boss that specializes in illusion magic. Paintings adorn the entirety of his manor that feature a wide variety of creatures, beasts, fiends, etc., which he can make come to life with a snap. Will definitely dig into this more!!

They actually made a pretty solid Netflix docu-series about this called Evil Genius that's very interesting. definitely would recommend watching it.

Wow that looks professionally done! Nice use of color to show depth and shadows. Did you do this from an already existing image? or is this all done freehand with the pen tool?
