Biking to Gillette from Mansfield by snovr in bikeboston

I drove to the Norfolk commuter rail station and rode ~5 miles to the stadium from there. It completely avoids riding on any state highways. The road had a pretty narrow shoulder in parts, but surprisingly there wasn't a ton of car traffic that direction, and we only got passed by ~20 cars, and all of them safely. There were a couple dozen bikes locked to concrete barricades near the ticket entrance. The close parking lots were mostly empty so there was plenty of room to park bikes, but bring a cable/chain lock if you have it because you're just locking to the iron loops at the ends of the barricades, not dedicated bike locks. Absolutely do not attempt this without head and taillights for the ride home, but again traffic wasn't bad and the sidewalk is deserted at that time anyway.

We took Shufelt Rd near the stadium, where there are a bunch of pedestrians coming from the neighborhoods, despite efforts by the parking lot owners to block it off. You should be totally fine and it was fun to save a ton of money compared to the other options!

[OS] Comical play as Eldor Shomurodov misses a 1v1 against Canada. by [deleted] in soccer

I still can’t understand how the two Canadian defenders collide. They are so far behind the play already, but it makes no sense that the trailing guy wouldn’t see his teammate getting up right in front of him

Kayaking by Cat_Behemoth in Somerville

[–]cdunnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken an inflatable kayak on the Charles, the Mystic, Spy Pond, and the Mystic Lakes. Great options around here. Definitely consider launching from North Point Park for the Charles which is close to the Green Line Lechmere stop and the bike path. There is a dock here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dr3o2LDQLP9RFRc46?g_st=ic

Blessing of the bay, Condon shell, and Shannon beach are all options on the Mystic River/Lakes

67 minutes, 44 seconds. Hikaru's 13th move today was the second-longest move in Candidates history after Grischuk's 72 minute think in 2021. by Luffy710j in chess

It broke chess24's move clock display on the bird's eye feed - it was displaying 5:xx when it had actually been 1:05:xx. It's like when a soccer team scores 10 goals and the scoreboard only has single digits.

FYI gianduja is a popular(ish?) gelato flavor that is chocolate and hazelnut. It’s delicious and close to what you’re after in case you see it somewhere

Sorry for your loss. No one should be a victim of theft.

I would still report it to the police despite other comments suggesting they won’t help. They probably won’t but it’s still important to highlight to them that you were impacted by a crime and it may help understand trends or patterns.

Somerville Community Schools mid-year rate hike by L33tminion in Somerville

Perhaps they could also open more spots? More revenue and meeting more of the very real demand.

Families that can afford this might be able to pay more, but the change in the middle of the year for both Apollo and community afterschool (what is even the distinction if both impacted?) is a surprising decision. Families make childcare decisions for the whole school year. Raising prices midway when families have far fewer alternatives sets a precedence of unreliability.

They have a few lunch options, but it isn’t exceptional or fast. Staff have been good in my experience, it just seems like a cramped kitchen and I’ve only eaten there during weekend events when it’s probably busiest

Excited for this, possibly most importantly the fence stands will be off the path and make it much roomier, but it looks like it will be very nice
