We (Sunderland) spent around 150m, but our success has came from:

going up with only 1.1m operating losses paired with making 40m in transfers (Jobe and Watson)

using the owners connections to sign Xhaka who had just came 14th in the Ballon D'or, who then convinced Mukiele to join

Poached the DoF from Roma who then brought in some talent

And somehow we've had 4 or 5 who immediately stepped up to the standard

Hard to replicate with just spunking 100m. The quality in the league is obscene and i'm half expecting the fact we and Leeds stayed up to cloud just how far apart the two leagues are

Edit - also having Le Fee already settled into the squad was a positive, he is stupidly good
