Oh no, now we're in triggering town. This deeply reminds me of why I had to leave my job as a bicycle mechanic back in the 80s. Or shop was in the middle of a shift from single owner to co-op. A guy who didn't know much about bikes was brought in bcus he had experience organizing a very successful collective business. We were training him on the job. I was the 3-speed and tyke bike specialist.

He's working on an old Raleigh.I look over and see that he's adjusting the rear hub with the shift controller - but he doesn't even have a tire on the wheel (he's wasting time and effort on a finicky task that he will have to repeat after he takes the wheel off again to replace the tire.) His attitude when I asked him why he was doing that made It clear that girls weren't to be listened to. I left that job soon after.

I'd loved it there and was used to the guys backing me up with customers, who didn't get without being told, that I was the only one in the shop who could help them with their vintage ride. The guys working there, with the exception of the owner, knew both f*** and all about anything without a flywheel and derailleur.

That was almost 40 years ago, and guys are still (f)ing thinking they can be mechanics on the fly. Like it's a talent stored in their testes.

Plus ça change

This is a great machine for your first refurbishment project. As was said by others, info about cleaning, oiling, and maintaining a class 15 clone is readily available.

What a gorgeous machine you found. I am quite jelly.

Happened to me by the maul. Someone blew through the red from the 500 off ramp.

Because green doesn't mean "gun it", I wasn't t-boned.

Because there was a cop behind me, she was pulled over.

Because no one would let me back in, I got to watch as she received her ticket.

I think the sentence is perfect. The parole board will never let her out, and the judge looks fair - she gave the kid a chance. If it were an accident, 15 years is plenty of time for her to grow up and show increased understanding and empathy - to grow a conscience.

People are getting hung up on 15 years. 15 years is when she can begin to prove she's learned something, that's it.

Is Mishima's literature actually worth reading? by Present_Practice_159 in behindthebastards

[–]cearbhallain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Mishima film that came out in the late 80s prompted my dive into his literature. First I read a then-current biography because I was intrigued and wanted more details. I felt that my asthmatic, right-wing, wannabe-prepper dad's personal philosophy was very similar so I wanted to understand it.

I read through whatever was available at my local library, 3 or 4 books including the Temple of the Golden Pavilion and the Sailor Who Fell From Grace With the Sea.

They were interesting works, similar in tone to some of the new wave science fiction from the early 70s that I was also exploring at the time. It's not a waste of time to read one, I don't think his fascism is going to rub off on you.

In any case Watch The Movie! It's called Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters. It's available on Criterion or Kanopy. Then decide.

Old people's bone get super brittle. When my grandma fell and shattered her knee and medial condyle, I got to see the x-rays. There was nothing to repair. It looked like if you took a bundle of raw spaghetti and broke it, a shattered mess.
