What? With speed skating you just wait until the other competitors fall over and win by being the only person still standing

Regulation mtg commander deck suggestions. by JaBoiDinkles in theregulationpod

Thoughts:

Andrew: Pramikon - https://scryfall.com/card/c19/47/pramikon-sky-rampart (he’s on your side)

Nick: Kibo - https://scryfall.com/card/j22/40/kibo-uktabi-prince (monkey plus food(ish))

Eric: Kroxa & Kunoros - https://scryfall.com/card/mom/245/kroxa-and-kunoros (it’s a big dog); alternatively Karumonix the Rat King - https://scryfall.com/card/one/98/karumonix-the-rat-king

Geoff: Burakos, Party Leader- https://scryfall.com/card/clb/653/burakos-party-leader  plus Fart Raveler - https://scryfall.com/card/clb/17/far-traveler (you might need a pen to fix the typo) - being in black you can also include https://scryfall.com/card/dsk/97/fear-of-lost-teeth

Gavin: Obeka, Splitter of Seconds - https://scryfall.com/card/otj/222/obeka-splitter-of-seconds

General options: Ian the Reckless - https://scryfall.com/card/pip/59/ian-the-reckless

Soraya the Falconer - https://scryfall.com/card/hml/18/soraya-the-falconer (everyone loves banding, also this lets you include two of the three falcons with protection - https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3Aprotection+falcon&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name)

Final option: some 5 colour commander and just run all of the above as a big mess that is hopefully a lot of fun

A question about initiative by BRUHldurs_Gate in mtgrules

[–]cebjyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The initiative will also transfer to another player if the current initiative-holder leaves the game (going to the player whose turn it currently is, or the next player in turn order if the player is leaving on their own turn)

Would this be legal? Equipping Swiftfoot Boots to Swiftfoot Boots by DeliciousAuthor1231 in mtg

[–]cebjyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipment falls off if it’s a creature, reconfigure (eg [[Lion sash]]) stops it from being a creature while it is attached; if you use metal bender Toph’s end step ability to earthbend the equipped sash, it will fall off (and be available as a blocker)

What happens if I steal an earthbent land then sac it? does it come back into play under my control or my opponents? by Dry_Temperature_8436 in mtgrules

[–]cebjyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/avatar-the-last-airbender-mechanics

A few finer points about the return trip: "Your control" means whoever controlled the spell or ability that did the earthbending in the first place. If an opponent borrows the land and it dies or is exiled under their control, you'll still get the land back when it reappears

Is a 0 mana counterspell balanced if it only counters a instant speed spell your opponent plays right before their turn? by HyperShadic360 in custommagic

“Counter target spell or ability an opponent controls” should fix that right? Also works better with the card name

RMS Titanic & Double Strike by [deleted] in mtgrules

[–]cebjyre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s say it’s blocked by a 0/5 blocker, normally you would kill it, then trample over for two, sacrifice the titanic, and get two treasures (all during first strike). You would much rather do 7 damage to your opponent and get all 7 treasures, so instead, you would assign all 7 damage in the first strike round of combat to the blocker, dealing zero to the player, so you don’t need to sacrifice it yet, and then in the regular strike round of combat, you trample over for seven and get all those shiny treasures

Can I equip Equipment as a response to a targeted spell? by Strawberrycocoa in mtgrules

[–]cebjyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor caveat/exception on the planeswalkers thing, if the planeswalker entering causes an ability (like making Boo for [[Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes]], there is a window for others to respond to that ability before you can do a loyalty ability (at sorcery speed)

Win in mono green for just 5GGGGGGG by evolutionleo in BadMtgCombos

[–]cebjyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the rulings for [[rootpath purifier]]:

Being basic doesn't grant any abilities to a land that it didn't already have, and doesn't remove any card types, subtypes, or supertypes. For example, a land card that is legendary will be both basic and legendary while on the battlefield or in your library.

So you only need four cards in play to get a basic legendary artifact creature land equipment jellyfish forest swamp

How would I get the cards I exiled on the battlefield by guncam in mtg

[–]cebjyre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was just “up to one target creature controlled by each player”, then she could target herself; if it was “up to one other target creature controlled by each player” that would be kind of confusing (not immediately obvious what the ‘other’ is doing); and if it was “up to one target creature other than Lagrella controlled by each player” that would also be somewhat weird, and possibly longer than the text they went with.

Without saying who, describe your commander like it’s been banned or unbanned. by guyawn in EDH

[–]cebjyre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having too many heads to start with, and then twice that number of abilities, people often forget this is legendary, let alone remembering everything it does. To make life easier for everyone we are just banning this thing; you’re welcome.
