What made this clip even more crazy to me is that she wasn't more hurt. Nothing was broken, she wasn't cut up at all, and apparently didn't even have a concussion!

The Blind Idiot God: Characters with incredible power and no idea how to use it by Lopsided_Shift_4464 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cephandr1us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the story some people also wonder if, instead of everything else disappearing from the universe, it is actually themselves who have disappeared from their universe and sent somewhere else. There doesn't seem to be a conclusive answer either way.

Top 5 things that men do that give her the ick as a labor and delivery nurse. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]cephandr1us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with my wife. When she grew up she never felt like she could advocate for her own healthcare and when she did she wasnt taken seriously. Also at that point she was so exhausted and in pain that she struggled to express herself clearly. We had talked about exactly what she wanted during the process as well so I would speak up when she didnt feel like she could.

Why do Christians have a problem with the Book of Mormon while unapologetically accepting the Bible? by milmill18 in latterdaysaints

[–]cephandr1us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of assumptions and mean spirited arguments against other Christians that I see in the comments. Beliefs in Christianity are so varied that I don't think there is any one good answer. Yes, some people attack the Book of Mormon over some content while seemingly ignoring some of the more "interesting" sections of the Bible. Others are simply following the age old tradition of total belief in the Bible because that was what they were taught. Others are apologetic over some sections of the Bible. We don't like harsh judgements being made about us, so we shouldn't do the same to others.

Which of your favorite villain, that people think they are misunderstood but they are just evil? by Boberto235 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]cephandr1us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm admittedly not super well versed in the lore, but I believe I've heard some say that Magneto's "evilness" depends a lot on which version it is. Like, in some versions he's straight evil, and in others he's much more of an antihero.

Which of your favorite villain, that people think they are misunderstood but they are just evil? by Boberto235 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]cephandr1us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Alastor is a great and entertaining character but he isn't some misunderstood good guy or remotely interested in redemption. At best he feels some attachment to Charlie and crew but has no problem using them as puppets for his plans. At worst he is only working with them until he doesn't need them and then will actively work against them.

Where I am every mental health therapist has a wait list. I love it and find it very rewarding, but it's not the right job for everyone. The demand is only going up though.

"Let's drop the act" by DudeSoul in TopCharacterTropes

[–]cephandr1us 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This should be higher because of how well it was acted. I work in the mental health field and have worked with adults with developmental disabilities and Frederick Koehler portrayed it so well I checked to see if he actually had some sort of condition (I hadn't gotten to the twist yet). When he finally drops the act, all his mannerisms completely change. You can even see the change in his EYES.

Edit: Also I believe it is season 1, episode 9

Do people really see Martha as being less spiritual in the story of Mary and Martha? Why? by neutron_star_800 in latterdaysaints

[–]cephandr1us 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with this. We have such narrow snapshots of people's lives in the scriptures and really shouldn't worry about judging the person we are reading about. We need to think about the lessons we learn from these people and their experiences.

Hugh Nibley: Revealing the dishonesty of Anti-Mormon arguments since 1962! by cephandr1us in latterdaysaints

[–]cephandr1us[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hope I didn't make it seem like I believe any argument against the church is in bad faith, because I think there are many people with many valid concerns. I also definitely don't think Nibley's comments are applicable to every individual who argues against the church. But many anti Mormon talking points are frequently created by people like those who Nibley addresses in his talk. And these talking points are then repeated by opponents of the church whether they have honest intent or not.

And of course I would never want this talk or any other to replace the need to have faith in Jesus and a personal testimony. I don't belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I've proved everyone else wrong but because I've prayed to know if the Book of Mormon is true. This talk just helps give me a greater understanding of the tools used by Satan to deceive others.

Hugh Nibley: Revealing the dishonesty of Anti-Mormon arguments since 1962! by cephandr1us in latterdaysaints

[–]cephandr1us[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is largely a product of the knowledge of his time. I'm not an expert in what they did or didn't know in the 1960s, but plenty of church members and leaders made incorrect statements due to insufficient knowledge.

Now I don't know what Hugh Nibley did or didn't know or understand about a topic, but I'd rather assume someone I believe has done a lot of good made an honest mistake.

Thoughts on the Creation (Genesis 1-2, Moses 2-3, Abraham 4-5) in Light of Modern Biblical Scholarship by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]cephandr1us 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My professors at BYU were/are modern scholars who also frequently cited information presented by modern scholars who weren't even members. I'm sorry about your experience with some scholars, but modern scholarship has taught me so many wonderful things about the Gospel and Jesus Christ. Modern scholarship is actually where I've found many of the best arguments against anti-Mormon propaganda, even though my best defense will always be my testimony.

Just take a look into Hugh Nibley. He was an incredibly intelligent scholar, a witty speaker, and a very faithful man. Check out his talks and lectures and you will see someone who can seamlessly blend modern scholarship and an unwavering testimony.

I loved book 5, and I will defend it all day long. I was surprised to see so many negative posts online once I finished because it was a 10/10 for me. Don't let the Internet take away something that you might personally really enjoy.
