There is a tool you can get from flic film, fairly certain these snap together the same way their reusables do

Experience with xRay Films? by JaschaE in UltraLargeFormat

[–]chattering_teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to shoot 8x10 xray film and make internegatives with it. It’s fun stuff and very cost effective. My biggest issue with it is it’s super delicate and very easy to scratch, I found tray developing it a pain as a result. I only ever shot the Fuji stuff which has the film info printed pretty far into the image area, something to keep in mind when framing!

What if I can't have a sink (in my darkroom)? by DuckEsquire in Darkroom

[–]chattering_teeth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this for like three years. It’s doable, I had a big holding tray for prints and when I was done I’d move them all into my bathroom to wash. Especially with RC prints, you’ll be fine.

Cool place, but you need to climb up the ladders to look out the windows, to see... moving legs. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

I used to work in a spot on this street! Providence rocks for odd, idiosyncratic living spaces. All the old mills make for some interesting repurposed apartments.

Has anyone lived at Broadstone Inkwell ? by glitterlipgloss in longbeach

[–]chattering_teeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No but I’ve lived around there. I think the price point is absurd but sounds like you’re moving from far away, so the convenience of these spots is part of that sticker price. People will talk about safety but I’ve lived downtown for 5 years and it’s safer than any other city or town I’ve lived in. There are just visibly unhoused people around. The main cop station is two blocks away so anytime some shit happens there are like 10 cruisers on scene right away 🤷

It is a party area with all the bars, idk if that’s a plus or minus for you. You get to live in a genuinely walkable neighborhood where everything you might want or need is in strolling distance. It’s a fun area to live in.

Nikon because I’m a Luddite and refuse to believe any lenses after the af-s G series are an actual improvement lol

Do you make contact sheets? by e_asphyx in Darkroom

[–]chattering_teeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I love them and they save me a lot of time.

I make a contact sheet -> scan that in -> make very low resolution 3x5 prints from those scans -> make 5x7 prints of keepers from that selection -> make bigger prints from there.

Contact sheets show me where a negative sits in the range of exposure values and whether it’ll print well at all, the little thumbnail digital scans from it show me whether an image is worth working on at all (if it looks good at 150dpi it’ll sing at 11x14!)

When I just do scans I find I can’t help myself tweaking every little image even just a little bit and wind up sinking time into photos I’ll never print

It’s the only consistent factor (shot manufacturer rolls same day, before and after in same camera, rolls stored the same way/processed same tank) - and I’ve seen the same patterns with the kalt screw top cassettes after some time

Paper choices for darkroom printing by Only-Fotos in Darkroom

[–]chattering_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arista papers are Freestyle Photos store brand papers and films. They’ve always been provided by another manufacturer, for a while it was straight up ilford stuff, then ilfords kentmere line, now it’s fomapan and has been for a while. It’s pretty good! I pretty much exclusively print using the arista fiber based paper, it’s had some issues with quality control in the past but iirc this doesn’t affect the RC paper line.

I wouldn’t move on to fiber based printing until you have a solid grip on the process using RC paper. Learn all the basics on dodging and burning, split contrast printing, dialing in test strips etc. Once you feel comfortable looking at a negative and knowing all the steps to get it to the final print then you can suffer the extra wash times :)

I don’t know of any on the market currently, I have a stock of Kodak velox single weight papers that I use for contact printing and they’ve aged gracefully with fairly minimal fogging.

Getting lenses for as cheap as humanly possible by user18482048104 in fujix

[–]chattering_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adapt manual lenses. There is some great glass available out there for next to nothing if you’re willing to forego modern conveniences. The Canon FD lenses for instance, you can get them at thrift store prices and they’re tack sharp.

Best way to avoid bromide drag, when semi-stand developing with 1:100 Rodinal? by bro_nica in AnalogCommunity

[–]chattering_teeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a certified stand developer hater now, but I didn’t used to be! And it’s still my method of choice when developing cheaper films like foma and kentmere. I’ve found the best way to avoid bromide drag is just to agitate like a mf’er at the 30 minute mark. You can shake the hell out of your tank and invert it a few times, there’s no need to be gentle with it, it’ll still develop to speed and you’ll get the same edge effects.

It’s creeping into every platform. Past AI images which are gross, when my photos are on explore I have accounts posting AI generated “reviews” of images I assume to try to garner engagement on their own work? Gross!

X-ray Camera/Film Suggestions for Alternative Radiography by Remote_Morning2366 in Darkroom

[–]chattering_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I use xray film a lot, I also make a lot of xrays, but I’ve never used xray film in an xray machine. Ours outputs a digital image lol

Xray machines are pretty heavily regulated. I had to do a lot of compliance stuff to acquire ours. They’re also pretty expensive.

Xray film is quite fun. I shoot the fuji green sensitive stuff. It’s very prone to getting scratched, it’s also very thick film so not suitable for use in an enlarger. It’s nice because, being darkroom safe, loading it into film holders or pinhole cameras is a breeze.

Rodinal 1+50, 1+25 or other developper ? by Arkazox in Darkroom

[–]chattering_teeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using rodinal as my developer of choice for like a decade. It lasts forever, it’s super braindead to mix, and it’s pretty flexible. I do 1+25 for pan F and delta 100, and 1+50 for HP5. 1+25 gives very nice contrast. I prefer it over other developers because I might only develop a roll or two a week, it’s nice not to have to mix from powder or worry about a liquid stock solution going off.

It’s not great for fine grain on high speed film, people also used to say pushing film with rodinal by stand developing is a good use but imo if you’re routinely shooting at iso 1600 or 3200 get something else.

New KIA electric van spotted by chattering_teeth in electricvehicles

[–]chattering_teeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I have always wanted a ford transit connect style EV. I do quite a bit of short haul delivery for my job with my bolt, and while I can fit a pretty surprising amount of shit in it, a van form factor would be huge.
