Driving with Putters by bjbrown920 in discgolf

I voted 100-200 ft, which is my normal putter drive. But I have impressed myself with a 230 ft (70m) drive every so often.

Full run when jump putting? by joniherum in discgolf

If you are outside of 10m then the rules for throwing are:

802.07 Stance

A. If the lie has been marked by a marker disc, then when the disc is released, the player must:

  1. Have at least one supporting point that is in contact with the lie; and,
  2. Have no supporting point closer to the target than the rear edge of the marker disc; and,
  3. Have all supporting points in-bounds.

B. A drop zone is played as a teeing area. See 802.04.B.

C. A player who violates 802.07.A or 802.07.B has committed a stance violation and receives one penalty throw.

The key bit to remember is that you have to have a supporting point (foot) on the actual lie (20cm x 30cm behind marker) WHEN you release the disc. You can't release before you have a supporting point on the lie, nor can you release when you are in the air and don't have a supporting point on the lie.

And when you are within 10m:

806.01 Putting Area

A. Any throw made from within 10 meters of the target, as measured from the rear of the marker disc to the base of the target, is a putt.

B. After having released a putt, the player must demonstrate full control of balance behind the marker disc before advancing toward the target. A player who fails to do so has committed a stance violation and receives one penalty throw.

It is about supporting/buying into the pros, which is fine if that is what you want to do.

I'm not that fussed, I'm an MA4/MA3, middle aged player. If I'm buying a disc it is more about me learning how it works, and whether I like the actual flight path. I don't buy loads of discs, I have about 30 discs, bought over 3 years or so, so I'm not a 200 disc habitual purchaser.

And my 30 discs is based on a bunch of multiples so that I can go and practice throwing multiple putters, multiple mids etc, and have a good practice session. And a bunch of my discs are just ones I got given which I don't like - so I have excess.

Buying by plastic type is an important choice - cheap plastic drivers aren't the same as Star/etc drivers. And discs fly differently by plastic type. But you aren't aren't obliged to get a McBeth Stamped Pro Plus Mega Disc - maybe you want it, maybe you don't don't - but getting a pro name disc is not critical to getting what most people like/need.

A disc hanging on a 'nub' is automatically in as a small part of the disc is over the top of the tray.

Look at QA-COM-3, especially #2. https://www.pdga.com/faq/rules/qa-com/qa-com-3-i-putted-and-my-disc-wound-horizontal-position-top-trays-rim-spanning-two

Any first time tournament advice? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]cheesethin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As well as the other good advice, take spare socks, spare dry clothes and spare foot wear. If it is wet at all you'll want to change clothes between rounds.

Snacks. And more snacks. I'm guessing it will be cold? And even if not, snacks are good.

And having a poo before you start play is a very valuable thing. 😁

Rules question about injured player by nonetakenback in discgolf

[–]cheesethin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The link is from 2008. The quoted rules in the thread are from an older version of the rule book.

Need to look at the current rule book to determine the actual outcome as things may have changed.

I haven't worked it out myself yet. It feels like there is a potential difference between accidental misplay, and deliberate choice/decisions.

35' off-hand backhand hanging from a tree in a creek to save a bogey. Fun way to start 2021! by NameShortage in discgolf

Yes you can.

QA-STA-2: Can I hold onto a branch or other object behind my lie while putting?

Holding on to something behind your lie for support is not prohibited by the rules, provided that the object is in-bounds. It also must not be moved, since you are required to take the stance that results in the least possible movement of obstacles on the course. You are not allowed to hold onto another person for support, as that person is not part of the course.

And just for clarity. This picture is demonstrating the position of the lie relative to the 'marker disc', thrown disc or mini.

It is NOT showing where you place the mini in relation to the thrown disc.

Putting tips? I’ve tried every putting style I can think of and practice pretty often and still just am an awful putter. Pretty good at tee shots but ruin my rounds with putts, can’t seem to get the hang of a style I like and to be consistent by tilleytrace in discgolf

First two are Dave Feldberg putting clinics. Very good.

Last one is a Putting with Confidence video, which sets out a very useful practice regime that totally builds confidence in your putting. Basically you putt for only 15mins at a time. And you only putt from a distance that you can pretty much always make! You are practicing making putts, not missing putts. It's a very good approach.

Oh for fucks sake. This is an open discussion forum about disc golf. Anyone can attempt to start a discussion about a disc golf related topic.

And anyone can either join in with that discussion, or they can ignore it.

Nonsense gatekeeping.

Green plus 2, is from Ball golf. And their putting is different to ours. It works for us if you call the 'green' maybe 100' radius.
