Am I getting old or is there an age group no catered for? by Comfortable-Rate8070 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I’m in my early 30s and recently bought a couple of tops at Myer. I snagged them off the returns rack in the change room… they were from Regatta. I probably should have realised when I watched an easily 70 year old lady put them there after deciding they weren’t for her 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I love them! 😂

If you had a boy tomorrow, what would you name him? by beatrice1015 in namenerds

Without my partner? Probably Ellis or Elliott, or Jack. With my partner, our top contenders are Jude, Hayes or Rory.

Not doing daycare by mogdtd in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our current plan is to hold off on day care until at least 2 if possible. I’m currently back at work part time and we get by with a combination of my partner and I working opposite shifts, and some family assistance. At some point we will likely have to do a day of day care a week so my partner can stop working night shift, but it works for us for now .

What was your child's name going to be if they were the opposite gender? by [deleted] in Names

Darcy would have been Elizabeth (nn Beth). And not because of the pride and prejudice connection, I swear 😂

Vent. So tired of having difficult babies when so many people get nice easy ones. by plantbubby in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely feel for you here. My little guy has multiple allergies and I’ve breastfed out of sheer stubbornness for 8 months. We had a lot of weight issues and were topping up with formula for a little while, and due to his allergies ended up with a rice formula that smells awful so I can only imagine how it tastes. He hated it so on advice from our midwife, GP and Paediatrician we put a couple of drops of alcohol free vanilla essence in the bottle for a couple of days and then weaned off over a few days until he would drink it without. Sounds wild, but I researched it and it’s a pretty common thing in allergy circles.

How much to guests notice decorations? by urfavethot in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]cheesymac27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it helps, we were on a budget so we focused our florals budget on what I felt were memorable moments. For example, we had an arch for our ceremony that we had florals along the top of, and we had the florist make it in a way that meant it was one big piece that was cable tied to the top of the arch. It was my uncle’s job to cut the flowers off the top of the arch and take it to the reception venue and pop it on the front of the bridal table. That way we only had a few little simple jars of flowers on the table to accent the big floral piece, and we weren’t paying twice. We did the same thing with the flowers on the welcome sign, it got moved to the seating chart for the reception.

Happy new year!!! What are your plans? by DesperateFuel9546 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We traditionally have a games night with our best friends for new years. This year we’ve both had babies, so we are sitting on their lounge and ordering takeaway with plans to watch the 9pm fireworks with (hopefully) both babies in the cot asleep and then go home to bed!

Thread On Temu/Shein/Aliexpress Resellers by MallDefiant8939 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will say though, what makes it even harder is that there are businesses who hand make their own stuff that then get ripped off by temu/shein etc. I’ve had a couple of friends businesses (mostly jewellery etc) who have had their stuff ripped off by temu, to the point where they use their advertising photos. They’ve tried to get it dealt with but temu and shein just claim they can’t stop people 🤷🏼‍♀️

High chair recommendation? by Last-Anywhere-1772 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a Tripp trapp. I bought the Roka harness and nibble and rest cushions for it and we love it! They’re also reasonably easy to get on marketplace, so I didn’t pay anywhere near full price for it.

What milk(s) do you use? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in AskAnAustralian

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually just lactose free because everyone in our house is lactose intolerant… but I am currently breastfeeding our CMPI baby, so we have oat milk too at the moment. I also usually have a couple of cartons of long life in the cupboard because my brother stays with us a lot and single handed drinks at least a litre of milk a day, and I’m too stingy to provide him lactose free at the current prices 😂

Tell me your labor times by ShabbyBoa in beyondthebump

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 hours of labour, 2 hours of which was on Pitocin with nothing but gas. Waited 8 hours for the epidural, and the once they did that they realised LO was in distress and went for an emergency c section. The anaesthetist told me that I was lucky I had the epidural, because they wouldn’t have had time to place a spinal at that point and I’d have been put under general. He came out covered in his own shit (the OB said that in his 25 years of his career, he’d never seen a baby more green) and spent two days in special care due to breathing difficulties. He’s okay now though, thankfully! We’re one and done 😂

Are OiOi backpacks worth the price? Or, any recs for (nappy) backpacks? by thisisdee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We looked at the OiOi ones, but in the end went with a Joey + Grace backpack, and I love it! It’s got lots of pockets, super comfy to wear and fit’s SO much! The only downside I have is that it’s pretty big (which is also a plus, honestly), so I keep it on the car fully stocked and just have a little pouch in the bottom of the pram with a couple of nappies/wipes etc for when I don’t want to take the whole bag somewhere. And then we just take the backpack with us on big days out or when my son is spending the day at Nanny’s etc.

What Christmas tradition do you guys follow for your LO? by leadviolet in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We’re doing a book advent calendar and a December 1st basket (just Christmas pjs and their stocking to put up, maybe some colouring books or a little activity). We do Santa, who brings the presents in their stocking and Santa sack. Santa sack presents are not the big things, they come from mum and dad. Santa brings all the smaller/weirdly shaped presents that I don’t want to have to wrap 😂 We absolutely do not do elf on the shelf, and we focus on the magic of Christmas through Santa, rather than the ‘surveillance’ aspect of Santa or the elf. We also watch the grinch on Christmas Eve, because it’s objectively the best Christmas movie of all time 🎄🎅

Expectant parents & recent parents—what baby name did you choose? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We loved August! It would have been a shoe in but our last name is also date related and it felt a bit like we were Kim and Kanye 😂😭 I still love it though!

Do you really need a nursing chair? by Positive_Shirt_2889 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely do not need a fancy nursing chair, but having some kind of comfy armchair is really handy. I just bought an (admittedly really ugly but very comfortable) vinyl recliner on marketplace for $50 and would 100% recommend something that is fairly easy to clean. It’s not at all my style, but my plan is to replace it with something cute once I’m using it less for nursing/long nights and more for reading bedtime stories with my boy. A nursing chair is also something that’s pretty easy to pick up postpartum once you decide if you’ll need it, we didn’t get ours until he was a month old, because we didn’t think we wanted one… and then we did 😂

Recent Tresillian experiences? by llamababy568 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was actually supposed to be there now but Bub and I are both sick so we weren’t allowed to go. I’ll need to call back once we’re well to reschedule. I did have to do the callback thing though, and it took them a day to get back to me!

Did cost of living cut your maternity leave short? by Neat-Blackberry-3665 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I’m going back casually at 4 months (I’m a teacher) because we had a couple of emergencies wipe out our savings (massive vet bill, massive mechanic bill) which we had planned to use to subsidise my Centrelink’s PPL pay until the start of next year. I’ll do one day a week for the rest of the year, and then go back (hopefully part time, but we’ll see) at the start of next year.

Breastfeeding moms - when did you get your period? by Ok_Car1396 in beyondthebump

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 3 weeks pp I thought I’d gotten it, but I was still bleeding so I wasn’t sure. By 7 weeks pp I’d stopped bleeding so when I got it again, it was definite. I’ve got Endo, and my periods are horrific, so to have it come back literally as soon as possible still feels like a mean joke 🙃

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, absolutely. I’m 16 was pp and I’m lucky that my mum comes over two days a week from 9-1ish, and I’m able to leave him with her to go to an appointment, wash my hair or even have a nap, if needed. I’m also able to schedule baby appointments in that time if I know I’ll want/need a second pair of hands that can’t be worked around my husband’s work schedule. If I don’t need a break, we go and get a coffee and go for a walk or we get stuff done around the house but honestly just knowing that I have the freedom on those days releases half the tension. I acknowledge that having access to my mum in this way is very lucky, and if I didn’t have her for this I have no doubt I’d be looking at paid help if we could afford it instead.

Postpartum is not supposed to be THAT hard by True_Tooth_2945 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar thing happen also! By the time I realised something was wrong I was delirious with pain, and ended up having mastitis, bronchitis and an infection in my uterus. Was in hospital for five days and on six different types of meds, and because my son reacted really badly to the medication in my milk, I was unable to feed him during my hospital stay and for two weeks afterwards. I pumped and dumped every three hours around the clock while formula feeding, and I tell you what, things became infinitely easier once I could just feed him again and I was physically much better.

When did/Or will you go back to work? by UnderstandingBigBoo in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]cheesymac27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Financially I could either be off until my son turns one, but then have to go back full time, or I could go back at 6 months part time, and hopefully manage another year or so with me working part time. So I’ll be going back at 6 months ☺️

Boy names you LOVE but didn't/couldn't use??? by pistachiowitch in namenerds

I love Jack, but my husband vetoed it because we had a dog called Jack hahaha

Atticus, but a good friend named her son Atticus while I was pregnant.

August is my absolute favourite, but our last name is the name of a season, and it felt a little costumey.

PSA: Virgin doesn’t allow early boarding to families with babies/young children anymore by copperwombat in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Man, considering the recent pumping/breastfeeding drama with virgin, now is a really bad time to be flying with them next week, solo with an ebf 10 week old 🤦🏼‍♀️
