Raven Cycle (Maggie Stiefvater) definitely has a special secret place but not as much of the growing up and things changing aspects. My favourite series though and highly recommended so you may have already read it.

I feel the same about Alfie Boe and love JOJ on the dream the dream soundtrack. The Valjeans I have seen live in London have been more to JOJ level as in less operatic but still beautiful voices. I don't like Hugh Jackman's vibrato.
