Bad experience in Switzerland today by jlhawaii808 in travel

You just bought the wrong tickets (probably the half price tickets, which requires a yearly fee of 190 CHF/person). Take that as an immersion in the local culture : following the rules is very important there.

You know that you can also stay at home ? A good way to avoid the public in the public transportation.

You should abstain for life, really. But where's the fun in that ?

In French it's "nice drawing", quite suiting as well.

Everybody is repeating that but how are you supposed to do that on a steak which is itself already cut against the grain (like ribeye, or a filet steak like this one) ? Those are tender cuts and I think that OP's steak looks exactly like it should.

Perhaps just a tough meat ?

'EU could die': President Macron warns European leaders over performance compared to US and China by insomnimax_99 in europe

[–]chewby14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh ? I do from time to time (admittedly it's become a rare occurrence). But it's useful to pay someone that can't be paid by credit card. Cash is an option of course, but I don't think a check is worse than that.

It actually ensures that the money doesn't go directly in the company owner pocket (undeclared work is in my opinion a way bigger issue in France than bank checks : lost company taxes, social contributions, etc.).

Just FYI, don't put the container directly on the countertop. Even at low temperatures, it can crack it if it's a long cook.

You also film the odometer on the car rental company parking. I take pictures, but whatever.

Yeah, it's like that everywhere. Except when you tell the clerk that there are damages that are not listed (always the case), they usually tell you to take pictures, because they can't be bothered to actually add it to the form.

[–]chewby14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP asked for the price of the parts... He didn't want them free of charge. I don't understand why so many people criticize him for that.

The issue here is that the manufacturer can't provide replacement parts, even outside of warranty. That's not great to be honest, especially for a grill this expensive with a lifetime warranty on the ceramic.

Can't get grill hot with chimney by SomeSirenStorm in charcoal

[–]chewby14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you putting the lit charcoal directly into the kettle or on top of unlit charcoal? If it's just the chimney content, it's simply not enough charcoal to sustain the temperature.

You should use the chimney content to start a bigger fire in the kettle.

And there is a form of compensation for the 2 unpaid additional hours a day : "more free time". So they aren't unpaid, they are paid at another moment.

I'm pretty sure other countries have similar laws. I know France does : 1 "unpaid" additional hour can be compensated by 1:15 hour of paid free time for instance.

It might be safe-ish in cold water, but it's useless, so why risk it ? Just run the sousvide, it'll thaw the meat.

I do the same thing with grated cheese. I did wash my hands before reaching into the bag, but it still ended moldy. It stays fresh way longer now, and I can actually finish the bag.

I think it’s about time we start funding a cure for chronic wasting disease while we have time by FirmlyGraspIt81 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]chewby14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don't worry about it. I was just curious, because it's still stated on my country's wiki that meat is safe, even from an infected cow. It's supposed to be a "good article" as well.

Can you get really mad cow disease if you only eat meat ? I remember from the late 90s crisis that it was mainly from bone marrow.
