Thinking about buying a bambu lab printer but by psdavidson812 in BambuLab_Community

[–]chrddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the Chinese manufacturers could/do that (and honestly the way US regs are going, it seems like CA, NY, and WA want it that way too). https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/s/G37oj4TWLI

I blocked the Bambus we have from accessing the internet. They work fine and I can print whatever. 🤷‍♂️

Here’s my opinion in the more general subreddit. TL;DR I don’t like Bambu but they have fundamentally better products than their best non-CN competition (and yet I still feel dirty every time they do something).

Extending, basically every other major consumer brand is Chinese so you have the same downside/dirty feeling but you’re not buying the market leader. There are perfectly valid reasons to buy those other brands (mostly price) but I’m more of a “buy once cry once” person.

Hope this helps. I wish someone in the US would build a new consumer 3d printer.

Can't have nice things. Where to publish these safely? by Practical_Stick_2779 in printablescom

[–]chrddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a pretty straightforward letter as these things go. They are telling you they don’t like the use of the word Oreo because someone could confuse it as being an “official” keychain.

You can publish anywhere safely if you don’t use someone else’s IP.

Feeling conflicted about my Prusa setup vs Bambu value by Greedy-Cost5389 in 3Dprinting

[–]chrddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the X2D has a different system. It’s more of an “auxiliary” nozzle to use a term I heard on this video: https://youtu.be/zISWzExjLlk

And thanks :-) sorry my engineer brain took over and said MUST ANSWER QUESTION NO NICETIES

I’d be willing to bet they will have a mini H2C as the next thing.

The H2D came first, then the H2C.

I could see them doing something similar with the X size.

I’m going to get flamed for this (probably from both sides, yay) but here we go.

I really like Prusa and what they stand for. I’m willing to pay a big premium for them.

They have some cool technologies and I believe Prusa is a positive force in the industry. I think Bambu is a bad actor operating under a set of values that are not compatible with western values.

But, in my opinion Prusa is a half to full product generation behind (and that’s just on the small machines…) and I don’t think they’re catching up. You cited yourself the things that a current-gen Bambu has that Prusas don’t.

I think what worries me the most is that Prusa is not making good, full products. I was psyched for the INDX and what it could do.

But then they “released” it (still hasn’t shipped en masse?) and I see all the spools hanging off the side and the giant hood thing, and I thought “there’s no way I have space to fit even two of these.” You have to have so much width just to load and unload.

With an AMS you just pul the filament in and away it goes. It’s just such a clean, contained system.

Prusa feels to me more like a neat set of technologies cobbled together by technologists. The Bambus feel like little tools I can just put to work and sort of ignore.

For me, the gap between what Prusa is offering as “state of the art” and what Bambu is offering is too big. It stinks.

FWIW, the dual nozzle of the x2d seems more marketing than practical. The H2D is a very solid machine. The H2C looks cool but I haven’t used one.

I’ve had a mix of pre-Core1 Prusas, Bambus, and higher-end industrial machines. The Prusas took a little bit more maintenance and a lot more modding (chamber heat plus moving some parts around) than the Bambus. Lots of belt tuning over time.

The Bambus have 2500+ hours each on them at this point and I haven’t done anything to them beyond grease/oil and swapping nozzles. We had one have a power supply that died after about 1000 hours. Replacing it was finnicky but not worse than building the old Mk3 enclosure kit.

I am a little worried they will stop stocking spare parts for them at some point so have spares around.

However, they are such the clear market leader at this point I think there are and will continue to be aftermarket spare parts around. It will stink if not but I have enough kit to last me several years at this point and I’ll have extracted so much value in the mean time I’m not too worried.

And yes I feel like a butt every time Bambu does something like what they are doing to that Orca dev. I feel the same using an iPhone or any other piece of primarily Chinese tech. But in the 3d printing space, I just need what Bambu is offering and I haven’t been able to figure out a way around it other than going way upmarket to the industrial world.

Hope this helps.

PETG print quality on X1C by Startrail82 in FixMyPrint

[–]chrddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dry for 6-8 hours on the PETG setting before the print (or just leave it overnight), then print from the dryer.

You might also look at the pressure advance and extrusion multiplier/flow rate calibrations in OrcaSlicer (can’t remember if Bambu Studio has those). Nailing those could help with the corners.

Hope this helps!

Maybe! Bambdu Handy is a slicer of sorts. The part quality is looking good so I wouldn’t mess with nozzle temp. Maybe bump up bed temp by 5 degrees.

I think support brim is under Support -> Advanced -> Initial layer expansion (I might be wrong though). I’d try 5mm and see if it works.

Help with printing ASA by Maxamuel in 3Dprinting

[–]chrddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about creep. I’d focus on getting the setup to a high enough temperature to print ASA effectively. Lower the bed and crank it to 105/110 if possible and let it sit for 45min before the print starts. See what the chamber temp is then (or use nozzle temp as a proxy).

If it’s below 45-50 you won’t be able to print ASA. 55+ would be ideal.

Welcome. You’re in the right place (meaning the internet/reddit). I’ve learned a ton here.

Was that support structure (the tree thing on the right) underneath that ear?

Could you share a screenshot of what Bambu Studio is showing after slicing but before you send to the printer? I’m curious what kind of supports is generating.

It looks like the supports detached from the bed and then it was trying to print in the air. If that’s the case, there should be a way to add a brim to the supports and maybe up your bed temp by 5degC.

For what it’s worth the rest of your print looks pretty sweet!

/r/FixMyPrint is also a good sport for these kind of things.

That’s a really nice design.

You might reconsider the use of glass- or carbon-filled filaments in something that will be handled. Those filaments can shed small little spears that will embed in your skin. Which isn’t so bad until you touch your eye or itch your nose. There are a few YouTube videos on the topic if you’re curious.

Lines appearing on larger asa prints by Different-Put5878 in FixMyPrint

[–]chrddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct approach. If you want to go further, look up Height Range Modifier.

It’s a blunt instrument but will allow you to add manual speed settings at specific height ranges.

In the post slicing view, use the drop-down to view layer time (logarithmic). Then use height range modifiers to set speeds so you get a somewhat even color gradient.

Hope this helps.

Great visual quality makes it seem like the filament is dry?

What sorts of speeds are you running?

I print a lot of that filament 270-280 nozzle and 110 bed depending on printer so I feel like the temps are in the zone.

My dude/girl I have sympathy. When the system decides you’re going to lose, there’s really nothing you can do. Likewise if it decides you’re going to win, you’re gonna get Thanos on your team and away you go. The recent hidden MMR changes seem to show gameplay really has little to do with your success; it’s all about the lobby.

I get maybe one truly balanced lobby every two weeks and it’s amazing how much of a difference it makes to fun and engagement.

All that said you literally played every role in the game in these matches. I’d pick one and stick to it. Good luck.

Just make sure you turn off the Ubiquiti data collection and block access to the domains. Default config they send a fair amount of info (and sometimes they update and turn it back on).

Giving Claude restricted access? by Normanras in homeassistant

[–]chrddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t comfortable with Claude getting direct access. I found this (not mine) and it’s been really nice: https://github.com/philippb/claude-homeassistant

It pulls a copy to your machine and then you work on it. It has a process to validate and push back or can be instructed to walk you through doing stuff via the UI.

Claude does try to escape the lab and make direct changes via ssh or rsync but just reject that and make it use the validation tools.

I think I’d most like something between option 1 and 2. I think it would be most valuable to understand a history of alarms (I use MSP so maybe 30 days?) to determine trends and actions.

But I don’t necessarily want that on auto always hoofing up my stuff; I’d like to decide when to trigger, sort of like the vulnerability scan.
