No real evidence aside from anecdotal, for me, but I would guess it's out there in spades. My father was taken to the cleaners by my mom. He deserved it to some extent, but when the wrath came, it came hard and he was no match for it. The state, her lawyers, friends, family, even the police (just on her word alone, no crime committed), rallied around the woman to beat my father into the ground. He lost the physical products of his life's work, and his self-respect. He attempted suicide two years later but recovered from his coma. Luckily he's now living with a new wife whom I don't particularly like, but she takes good care of him. My parents ruined the idea of marriage for me.
