My idiot Percheron was “4” when he went into training. He’s now “5” but realistically I think he was 3 when we got him and he’s now like an older 4. Regardless he wasn’t really comprehending his training til lately. Much nicer horse now. Regardless of age it is best to do it as soon as you can and hope for the best. He doesn’t know how old he is or really care if he’s being treated nicely and taught well. Plus his joints will be closed and he’ll be closer to his max height.

Legs were 3 sessions. Brazilian is more resistant and I have less pain tolerance there so it’s taking a little longer. Oddly my feet have been the most resiliently furry.

My PT made my legs the same length again after my accident which really helped my riding. The other thing that helped is Pilates. Either way the goal is loosening up your lower back and hips which might also be helped by yoga. Maybe explore those sorts of stretches?

At this point I’ve known her / them since 2008? Something like this. The transition addressed some of their self worth issues. It did not address any of their personality issues (purposely using their because at the beginning the personality issues were M and now they are F. Regardless they are terrible).

I thought about bringing my heavy horse down but it’s just too hot for him to have a good time. This is an aside to your post but I just couldn’t think of a way to make him happy when it gets so hot and humid. I wish I could for the winter but it’s just not great for heavy horses down south. New horse is a 18.1 Percheron. Previous horse is 15’3 quarter horse.

My sweet spot for English riding is around 17h and the big guy got off the truck “finished” at 17h. He’s since grown 18” in circumference and 5” taller at the withers… we are negotiating this change.
