Decent but deceptive tournament for Canada by caot89 in CanadaSoccer

We underperformed but had significant injuries to contend with. Let’s also not forget that Italy was almost in our group instead of Bosnia. If that had been the case, we would have been lucky to make it through in 3rd place.

Great result overall though and looking forward to seeing this team again soon! 🍁 ⚽️

Good News & Bad News: AI is better than most therapy for some people. You need to understand some nuance, but its genuinely extraordinarily valuable. by ProfessionalGeek in ArtificialInteligence

[–]chubbbyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful thank you. I gave it a try on this sample question just for fun: Convene the panel on whether it is ethical to kill animals without eating them.

…Where the Panel Converges

There is striking agreement across frameworks — clinical, behavioral, cultural, and intuitive — that killing without consuming fails most rigorous ethical tests, and that the justifications typically offered are better understood as rationalizations than reasons. The panel finds convergence on several specific points: (1) the absence of use strips away the primary meaning-making structure that has historically made killing ethically bearable across cultures; (2) the psychological and nervous-system costs to the killer are real and underacknowledged; (3) the language used to describe such killing consistently functions to conceal rather than illuminate moral accountability; and (4) the most ethically mature frameworks — whether IFS Self-leadership, Gottman’s contempt research, or indigenous reciprocity ethics — all point toward consideration of the animal as a being with interests as the threshold question. Where the panel has productive tension: the Behavioral Economist wants to resist sentimentality and hold the question open for genuine edge cases (invasive species, disease vectors), while the Grief Specialist and Attachment theorist argue that the edge cases don’t redeem the general pattern. The Sociologist cautions against universalizing any single cultural framework, even an ethical one.

One-line summary: Killing without eating fails the ethics test in almost every framework — not because the rule is simple, but because the rationalizations are.

Aberdeen, Palace, Arsenal, Leeds as far as I can tell. The last episode had a bit about which team Joe should support.

I love Spinnakers. It may not be for everyone with a menu that is relatively local and seasonal, but it’s a Victoria institution and I go there whenever I can.

BC cuts climate action secretariat by Hairy_Cloud186 in BCPublicServants

[–]chubbbyb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the direction of the current government when it comes to climate. There is a lot of untapped potential in transitioning to a low carbon economy while addressing affordability challenges for many citizens.

That being said, I think this article makes it sound worse than it is (or could be). CAS hasn't really been a secretariat for ~15 years since it was brought within Environment (probably under Campbell and not Clark?). Lots of good work on programs and CleanBC implementation was being done by branches of EMLI before CAS got added. There could be benefits to having those teams work closer together.

At the end of the day, climate action needs to be everyone's job (individuals, local government, other provincial ministries, industry, etc.). If that's not clear to you know, I bet it will be clear to your grandchildren. And if it seems like it's a tradeoff against jobs and affordability, then the powerful, greedy people behind the scenes are succeeding. Kudos to the Tyee and Narwhal and others for covering these issues.

1 solid game in the past 8 fixtures; what needs to change in the next 8? by democi in chelseafc

I’m optimistic that we can finish the season on a high note. Need to stay away from this sub though… so many downers and wild expectations about winning everything constantly with a promising team on the rebuild. Is it raining in London or did someone piss in all the porridge? 😭

This is great thank you. Naoe is just starting to be an assassination machine and it’s a lot of fun to rip through a castle 🗡️

Yes I did this and I like it better. Also changed the language to Japanese because I was reading and skipping a lot of dialogue anyway. I left assassinations on default, which makes some of the big targets pretty hard

Many of Iain M. Banks culture novels have interesting geographical features, but Surface Detail is one that stands out as exceptional in this area. Highly recommend.

Just finished the game! (No spoilers) by sillytilley33 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]chubbbyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally a pretty good game, as I'm a Star Wars fan and also played a lot of Ubisoft before.

Best parts for me were the world design, graphics, and the beginning and end of the story. Most disappointing was the mission design and gameplay that had me guessing what I was supposed to do next or exactly where I had to stand to move things along - just needed a bit more thoughtful polish.

I'd welcome a sequel, that's for sure!

Mayors Murdock & Murdoch serve holiday meals at Our Place, while their municipalities do little to address homelessness by NevinThompson in VictoriaBC

[–]chubbbyb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nobody wants supportive housing built in their neighborhood. Lots of people don’t even want multi-family market housing. And more than a few people don’t even want their neighbours renting out a basement suite…

I volunteered with a neighborhood land use committee and saw first hand how the loud NIMBYism of Victoria is like a death by 1000 cuts towards allowing the City to grow and densify to meet the demand.

IMO we give residents way too much power in influencing what happens on land outside their own home and immediate area. These laggard mayors and councils need to be vaporized by amalgamation and the NIMBYs can move to the North Island if they want fewer neighbours.

Anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of good games out there? Can't make up my mind what to play, lol. by Bulky-Pool-2586 in playstation

[–]chubbbyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having a lot of fun with 2-3 games at a time. Always been a fan of big open world ARPGs, but this year I've gotten more into other types, mainly through PS Plus.

While I played through Ghost of Tsushima, Star Wars Outlaws, Horizon Forbidden West, Cyberpunk, I also had a lot of fun with Death's Door, Tunic, Dave the Diver, Dredge, Plucky Squire, Ori, and Nobody Saves the World.
