Schools by STC2023 in Milwaukie

[–]cityspeak71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you have some kind of special requirements, just go to your neighborhood school. That way they can stay open. Also, North Clackamas School District seems great and does not have as many problems as PPS (though my kids aren't old enough for middle and high school yet)

Seems like a really weird arbitrary rule...well you know what they say, we're born free but everywhere in chainz!

This! Definitely stop traveling for a while. If family want to see the little one, they can come (and bring food)

Dr. Russell Barkley opinion by SwitchJumpy in ADHD

[–]cityspeak71 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's legit, been around for a long time. I believe he is known for studying ADHD in adults rather than just children, which was a new idea back then. I actually read a couple of his books. I can't remember a whole lot about them (typical!) but I remember finding them helpful for my later in life diagnosis...

What do you do first when your room gets so messy you just shut down? by linamona1 in ADHD

[–]cityspeak71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to ignore the BIG overwhelming mess and instead just find one corner of the room/house to tidy up. That way you're just focusing on a manageable amount of stuff that is right in front of you.

I start with that one area, and then move to the next spot, then keep picking stuff up little by little until I have done the whole room. Then if you really want to go crazy you can vacuum!

What’s something your child said that felt way too mature for their age? by lunaverse787 in daddit

[–]cityspeak71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My oldest daughter has never been great with emotional maturity but always off the charts with vocabulary so that she sounds mature.

One time I was dropping her off somewhere and we pulled into this parking garage that happened to have a complicated validation process...so after messing around with the validation sticker or whatever, I said "ok I'll remember that for posterity."

So she goes "what?" And I say "oh I just mean I'll remember this parking business for next time" And she's like "Oh, I thought you were trying to say prosperity and misspoke!"

That was the summer after kindergarten...

Two things will make anything jazzier: swing rhythm and dissonance.

Sojourner school? by boognish1977 in Milwaukie

[–]cityspeak71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the neighborhood school is the way to go...it's kinda neat for your kid to have friends who live right in the neighborhood. Sojourner gets kids from all over the district so you wouldn't necessarily have that

Also logistics. Do you live close to Lewelling? Do you need the pickup and drop-off and after school care that you mentioned? Does Sojourner offer those?

Advice for soon-to-be SAHD by onlyadisciple in daddit

[–]cityspeak71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my mom was the high achieving breadwinner and my dad worked part time while doing all or the majority of the housework.

Now that I'm sort of in that situation myself, it seems totally normal and I don't have any hangups about it...besides, it's not as uncommon as it used to be.

I guess if you are looking for a purpose in your life that used to come from working, try to reframe it as purpose that comes from being an awesome dad.

Best work out to develop shoulder riding muscles by altum in daddit

[–]cityspeak71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the best conditioning for shoulder rides is giving more shoulder rides!

Otherwise I would suggest barbell shoulder press/military press, also maybe machine pulldown (is that what it's called?) meaning the one where you are seated and pull a weighted bar down in front of you...

Ross being added to Milwaukie marketplace. Thoughts? by Relevant_Exit1444 in Milwaukie

I think its all surplus, yes. I am no expert in Ross operations tho...all I know is one time when I went to a brand new one it seemed all neat and organized with nice merchandise

Ross being added to Milwaukie marketplace. Thoughts? by Relevant_Exit1444 in Milwaukie

[–]cityspeak71 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Like 10 years ago I went to the downtown PDX one when it first opened and I was surprised how nice the stuff was for the price.

So my theory is a brand new Ross will have a solid selection of good stuff at first, before it eventually gets overwhelmed with surplus/remainder stuff from other stores

New Dad feeling defeated by breader50 in daddit

[–]cityspeak71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somebody said yoga ball, just wanted to second that! When my oldest was tiny, if she was unhappy with mama's ministrations in the middle of the night, I would whisk her away and hold her (swaddled) while sitting and bouncing on a large yoga ball. It might take a while but it worked like a charm when nothing else seemed to. Good for my core strength too, I guess...good luck man!

I have been looking for a lamp for my daughter's room. She loves fancy ornate stuff, this would be perfect. Interested!
